Drumline

it looks like a Bring it On, rip.

But it actually looks pretty good.

I thought it looked like the funniest movie of the year (or next year).

I don't remember it being so cool to be in band when I was in high school. What happened?

Everytime I see this trailer, it makes me think about how desperate Hollywood must be. You have got to be kidding me, right? Battling school bands? Give me a freaking break. What is even worse about this movie, is that they filled it with black actors (let me finish) so that it would attract a black audience (see, not what you thought). I'm all for black film making, and black movies, but do so just for the profits is sad. Now, this is just what I got from the trailer, but there is no way in hell I'll be watching this movie.

It's pretty sad that they are even ripping off the line "Just bring it" in the movie itself.

Looks awful. almost as awful as Biker Boyz.

agreed. this looks bad.

the way i see it, say MAD TV was going to do a spoof of "bring it on"...what would they do? the preview of this movie is exactly it.

MAD TV commercial: "bring it on had battling cheerleaders...well this summer, theres a new battle - drumlines! rat-a-tat tat tat!!! booyah!!" *crowd laughter*

thats how sad it is.

I just have one thing to say about this movie and I NEVER say this: It looks like the worst movie to come out of Hollywood...ever.

It was one of the those movies that looked so bad I kept thinking it was a preview for a fake movie and an advertisement for something else. I just kept waiting for the big record needle scratching the record sound.

Have you ever been to a HBCU(Historically Black College or University) football game? If not , then I can understand your point. As a fan and attendee I can tell you that nobody and I mean nobody goes to the game for the game. Half time traditionally is the battle of the bands and it's something you have to experience to appreciate. No show tunes or top 40 hits, this is simply pure funk and a whole lotta fun! Drumline is set on those same lines. I am a graduate of an HBCU and am really looking forwad to this film. I wouldn't say it's pandering but it's definately speaking to an experience that's pretty germaine to the HBCU football game expererience. that being said, I am anxiously awaiting the release of this film!

exactly.

grambling vs. southern, for example. no one goes for the game.

i don't see this as a movie about "band geeks." i see it as a movie about bands like these, that do exist primarily at traditionally african-american universities. a number of these bands also perform in the parades during mardi gras, and they are crazy entertaining.

I'll have to admit that I'm looking forward to seeing this movie as well... It may not be in the theater but I'll rent it at the very least.

If the movie captures even half the intensity of one of these performances, it'll be entertaining. Plus its got Orlando Jones... and you can never go wrong with a little Orlando Jones.

I'm an HBCU dropout and the only good memory I have of my time at college was that the band kicked ass.

The football game is secondary to the halftime show.

Still, this movie looks like a Bring it On ripoff.

I like in the trailer when they have a Drum off and they srum a little and then use their sticks as swords then drum again and so on. This plot has been used up so many times. "The new kid in town, he's so good he could even be the best. But the kid has no discipline" Yeah its a WINNER.

Well I did like Bring it On, so I guess it's possible I could like this, but I don't see it. The movie will probably make a little money this weekend and be quickly forgotten (lots of stuff this weekend, none of which is necessarily good, but it's competition)

This is pretty sad that we're using "Bring It On" as a measuring point for good or bad movies... and that ANY movie (Drumline) sinks in comparison to a movie about CHEERLEADING......

You naysayers should take a look at rottentomatoes.com. Five critics including a few in the Cream of the Crop all approve.

Not saying this is a stamp of approval by any means... just that those who've disregarded this movie well before they've seen it, ought to give it at least a chance.

You can't blame the movie itself for a poor marketing campaign aimed at pre-teens who took Bring It On seriously.... blame the studio.

Exactly what I was about to say. There are other worlds/lifestyles that exist outside your own.

Have they stated that it's "the rocky of marching bands" ?

I really don't care if they disregard the movie that is their own choice but the people who totally go off on it before they have even seen it are the people who get on my nerves. You know who you are.

The simple fact is if a studio packages it's movie in a crappy wrapping, what else can we expect. the trailers make it look like a total pile of junk. Nothing more then a Bring it on knock off in the world of band.

Maybe it might be decent, From the trailers, I really don't want to take the risk.
