Dragonheart - better than I thought
I saw Dragonheart in the theaters when it first came out, I remember it was a midnightish showing and I went with a buddy who kept whining about staying up late cuz he had to work the next morning, and he fell asleep halfway through. I didn't really like the movie much, I thought it was boring and corney.
But, I just watched it tonight on cable and I have to say I really liked it. The prince in it was pretty annoying but asside from that it was generally a good movie, and I found myself almost teary-eyed at the very end.
So I think I might get the DVD... Anyone have it? Is it worth getting? Does it have any good extras? Should I get the regular version or the DTS version?

I too find this movie to be pretty enjoyable. It definitely has its faults, but overall it is really good.
The extras on the Dolby Digital version were fantastic for the time (back in 1998 when the DVD was released), but probably pale now compared to more packed SEs. You get a really good commentary from the director, a documentary (can't remember how long this is), some FX footage, still frames, and other stuff.
Unless DTS is extremely important to you, you definitely want the Dolby Digital version. The DTS edition is movie-only.
I should also mention that this DVD (both editions) is now out-of-print. The eBay value really hasn't gone up at all (you can usually find it for $20-25, retail was $35). But you may have trouble finding this in a store...

i have the original version ..... not sure if there are even mor than one ...... this movie is above average but not great. The CG effects (dragon) were state of the art at the time and still look passable today
the best reason to get the disc is the audio..... great DD mix ..... especially the scene with the dragon flying in circles over denis quaids head ...while haveing a conversation
this disc is one of my referance discs for that very scene .... sit the surround sound challenged down to this film and they will have no more questions as to the value of surround
**** its also a great test for ur system ..... if ur system is anygood connery's voice will NOT change timber as he changes speakers ...... if it does change ur system needs work ****

I have the DTS sample disc with DRAGONHEART as one of the samples. It's the scene when the dragon is flying around and talking to Quaid about honor. All the speakers get a turn and it sounds great.

Last time I checked, Dragonheart was available through Columbia House. I don't know if that's still the case, but if you can't find it anywhere else, check there.
Also check pawn shops. I picked mine up at one last month for 10 bucks

Funny, I was just ebaying mine...I just don't want it. I watched it for a fourth time in like 3 years last night, and I could care less about it, even though I'm a rabid dragon fan...

Last I checked this movie has an MSRP of $34.95 and is available as an enrollment DVD for CH online or phone orders. I think both version are available as well. Someone correct me if something has changed.
