"Ghost" is a comedy/musical?!
What the heck, I was just checking the Awards page to be amazed that Goodfellas didn't win any Golden Globes and I saw that Ghost was nominated for Best Picture - Comedy/Musical (wound up losing to "Green Card"
) and Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore were nominated in the comedy/musical Best Actor categories. Am I missing something or was the film almost entirely drama?
Sure, there was the Whoopi comic relief and stuff, but most of the film was pure drama. It's not like there were song-and-dance numbers to accompany The Righteous Brothers.
Weird.
And effin' Dances with Wolves beating Goodfellas is just so lame it's funny.

It just falls under the classification.
Though why it would be a musical beats me. But it being a musical is 99.99999999% better then calling it a comedy.

Probably there weren't that many movies that fit well under the comedy/musical category that year. So they took some of the lighter dramas and move them to comedy category.

The fact that it won for best comedy/musical doesn't mean that they think the movie is a musical- just that it's one OR the other. I believe they simply break everything into two categories, "Drama" and "Comedy/Muscial" so they all the bases covered.
Of course, whether or not it's a comedy could be debateable...

I've never been able to classify this one. It has elements of comedy, drama, fantasy, sci-fi. I now have a special shelf for movies that are so multi-genre that they are impossible to nail down. Ghost is one. Also movies like Men in Black and Galaxy Quest that are just as much sci-fi as they are comedy. I have a couple dozen on that shelf and will probably add BTTF when that comes out.
