HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Rapper Snoop Dogg ("Training Day") has been offered the role of Huggy Bear in Warner Bros.' big screen version of "Starsky & Hutch"
Already attached as the leads are Ben Stiller as Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch. Todd Phillips, who wrote the last draft of the script with Scott Armstrong, will direct, according to trades sources.
Based on the popular 1970's television show, which ran from 1975 to 1979, the series followed two bachelor undercover cops -- the brunette Starsky (originally played by Paul Michael Glaser) and the blond Hutch (David Soul) -- who chased down criminals in Starsky's bright red, white-striped 1974 Ford Torino. The series also featured the duo's colorful street informant, Huggy Bear (played by Antonio Fargas).
The offer to the Snoop Dogg is expected since Stiller has been saying for months that that he wanted the Huggy Bear role to go to the singer. Huggy Bear is a jive-talking hustler who gives the two cops vital information in order to crack their cases.
Aside from "Training Day," Snoop Dogg's acting credits include John Singleton’s "Baby Boy," Ernest Dickerson’s "Bones" and D.J. Pooh’s "The Wash."
Production on "Starsky & Hutch" is set to begin next spring.
This remake sounds interesting, but I'm wondering whether it's going to be a satire or a serious remake?
