Metal Gear Solid: The Movie

Just the other day I was thinking about who I would in a Metal Gear Solid movie so I thought I'd see what you guys would do.
So this would be my cast:

Snake: Hugh Jackman

Raiden: Tom Cruise (Maybe dye his hair??)

Stillman: Morgan Freeman

Snakes partner the computer whiz: Steve Busemi

Rose: Sandra Bullock

The Chief or whatever he is: Gene Hackman/Tommy Lee Jones

Directed by: Micheal Bay

So what do you guys think and who would you cast?

Groucho 11-16-02 09:14 PM

Snake: David Spade

Since Snake was modeled after the Snake Plissken then obviously Kurt Russell!!! Raiden I'd go with Ben Affleck. Computer wiz...hmm..Jason Lee. Katie Holmes could be Rose. The Colonel..Gene Hackman would be good. The boss guy at the end...Christopher Lee! Olga I think her name was could be played by..ehh..someone fugly. And Fortune could be played Vivica A Fox. Directed by the Wachowski Brothers Produced by Joel Silver.

Goat3001 11-16-02 11:22 PM

Dammit. I thought they would actually be making a movie from the title of the thread :(

Deftones 11-17-02 08:26 AM

before I opened the thread I was thinking Hugh Jackman, although he is a tad bit short.

Ha ha ha, Joe Dirt had me laughing out loud in a ton of scenes

You guys got somethin' to say to me? Why don't you say it in the microphone. I got a backup mike right here. Check one two, testing, testing. Yup, they both working and guess what? they don't like no feed back, whats up?

Simpson Purist 11-17-02 05:26 PM

For the first Metal Gear Solid

Solid Snake: Hugh Jackman
Liquid Snake: Orlando Bloom
Revolver Ocelot: Sam Elliot
Meryl: Rachel Leigh Cook
Vulcan Raven: Rolf Moeller (the very big/strong guy from Gladiator)
Sniper Wolf: Catherine Zeta Jones
Psycho Mantis: Alan Cumming
Colonel Roy Campbell: R. Lee Ermey

Director: Wachowski Bros. (I heard they're big Metal Gear Solid fans)
2nd choice: Tony Scott

SiberianLlama 11-17-02 05:32 PM

I thought that the plot of MGS 2 was horrible compared to the first one so I hope that they never adapt Sons of Liberty.

I don't even want Raiden in MGS 3. Metal Gear is about Solid Snake, not some other guy.

joeydaninja 11-17-02 06:22 PM

what about Matthew Mcconaughey as Snake? Ever since I saw Reign of Fire, I was terribly impressed.

and have Rob Bowman direct again and Adrian Biddle do the cinematog.

Ralph Wiggum 11-17-02 09:40 PM

Snake = Scott Baio.

Captain Harlock 11-17-02 10:59 PM

Just keep Joel Schumacher as far away from a Metal Gear movie as humanly possible.

Your choices for Snake and Otacon (the computer wiz) are the same exact choices I've been voicing sing MGS first came out. Another good choice for Snake (circa Sons of Liberty) would be Sean Bean.

Simpson Purist:

As for Liquid, Orlando Bloom really doesn't look too much like Hugh Jackman so he would be better suited to play a non-whiney Raiden. Also, isn't Orlando Bloom a little too young to be Liquid? Seriously, I liked Raiden but wanted to shoot Rosemary. No wonder the guy was always complaining!

Rolf Moeller can't be Vulcan Raven as Vulcan Raven was black (at least he looked black). That is, of course, if you want to stick to minute details (as most hardcore fanboys would). Otherwise, he's a fine choice. :)

The Wachowski Bros. are Hideo Kojima's personal choice if ever there were to be a Metal Gear movie but I'd prefer Tony Scott (the way he directed Spy Game would suit the whole intruige and thinking man's actioner elements that can often be found throughout the Metal Gear games -- minus the action heavy boss fights *l*) or Ridley Scott (the way he directed Black Hawk Down would be perfect for the "Mercenary War" of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) would be good choices. Maybe they should collaborate.

My original directing choice was John Frankenheimer but sadly...:(

Anyhoo, your other casting choices are great. I never thought of Same Elliot as Shalashaska. Do you really think he can pull of the accent, though? And since this is a movie and would take liberties with the story,
Spoiler:
maybe they'd kill off Meryl! ;) I just felt the dialogue was really cheesy when you knew Meryl was alive making Snake come across as a whimp whereas he seemed more human and fallible when you knew she was dead. He was easier to relate too with the "Meryl is dead" scenario.

Isn't Hugh Jackman 6'4", Deftones17? I think he's tall enough.

Mr. Cornell 11-18-02 03:53 PM

It's obvious Solid Snake should be Kurt Russell, if only so the line "Call me Snake" can be in the film...

Hollywood studio game for "Metal Gear Solid" By Tatiana Siegel and Borys Kit
Fri Feb 9, 4:56 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Columbia Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the rights to adapt the best-selling video game "Metal Gear Solid."

The studio plans to turn the PlayStation game series from Konami Digital Entertainment into a character-driven futuristic spy thriller.

The game centers on Solid Snake, a Special Forces operative called out of retirement for one last mission. With terrorists threatening a nuclear facility in Alaska, Snake must penetrate their defenses and neutralize the threat.

With sales of more than $1 billion and 20 million units, the "Metal" franchise is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed video game series in the marketplace. Since its debut in 1998, the franchise also has spawned ancillary markets, with 3 million strategy guides, 1.5 million action figures and 200,000 comic books sold.

"futuristic spy thriller" those 3 words make me cringe.

ProKaZZ 02-09-07 08:09 PM

Just watch the the scene from 24 Season 4 when Jack Bauer and company covertly storm the Chinese Embassy, and tell me Kiefer Sutherland wouldn't be Bad-Ass as Snake.

RichC2 02-09-07 08:27 PM

Kiefer Sutherland wouldn't be Bad-Ass as Snake.

He's Jack, and will always be Jack, you can't change that. That said, when I saw Season 1 of 24, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was Metal Gear Solid the TV Series in some parts.

Apone 02-09-07 08:39 PM

Damn it people! I have an urge to play this game again.

Yeah, me too. I wish I didn't sell MGS2.

Dash 02-09-07 09:13 PM

To me the game plays out like a movie with all the story and dialogue in it. I would see a movie if it was well made but if It turned out bad it would leave a huge sour taste in my mouth.

Mei Ling - Ziyi Zhang
Meryl - Elisha Cuthbert (hair dyed red of course)
Revolver Ocelot - Sam Elliot
Vulcan Raven - The Rock
Sniper Wolf - Elizabeth Mitchell
Psycho Mantis - Christian Bale
DARPA Chief Donald Anderson - Samuel L. Jackson
ArmsTech President Kenneth Baker - Alan Dale
Ninja/Grey Fox - ??
Hal "Otacon" Emmerich - ??

Match 02-09-07 10:12 PM

Snake: Christian Bale or Thomas Jane

DVD Josh 02-09-07 10:34 PM

There is no way anyone but Kurt Russell would be snake. MAYBE, Russell Crowe. But anyone else, including Jackman, is just silly.

UAIOE 02-09-07 11:48 PM

Michael Biehn...just like on the Metal Gear box cover (or MSX cover in this case).

Looks more like Harry Hamlin if he wasn't a total fembot.

I believe it actually is based on Michael Beihn in a scene from "Terminator".

I like Thomas Jane as Snake.

RocShemp 02-11-07 07:30 PM

I like that idea, PopcornTreeCt.

For me, I always though Sean Bean looked a lot like Snake. I know he'd make a great Liquid but I wonder how well he could pull off an American accent in order to portray Solid Snake.

‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie Announced

Columbia Pictures and Kojima Productions have plans to bring “Metal Gear Solid” on to the big screen.

During the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary presentation, producer Avi Arad (“X-Men,” “Spider-Man”) announced the video game adaptation is in the works.

“For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters—and video games are the comics of today,” said Arad. “We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, idealogy, cautionary tales needed.”

The video game was developed by Konami for the PlayStation console that featured terrific cut scenes, voice acting and combat scenes. The storyline follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to eliminate a terrorist threat.

The video game was originally released in 1998. It later spawned many sequels, prequels and spin-offs for videos and with several comics and novels.

Specific details for the movie were not revealed at this time, but we will update as we hear more on this project.

It's about time as I think there could be potential with Solid Snake and the metal gear universe.

Metal Gear Solid already is a movie considering it has about 10 hours of cutscenes and 2 hours of actual gameplay.

It's more like the Fanny & Alexander of video games.
