I believe it actually is based on Michael Beihn in a scene from "Terminator".

I like that idea, PopcornTreeCt.
For me, I always though Sean Bean looked a lot like Snake. I know he'd make a great Liquid but I wonder how well he could pull off an American accent in order to portray Solid Snake.

Simpson Purist:
As for Liquid, Orlando Bloom really doesn't look too much like Hugh Jackman so he would be better suited to play a non-whiney Raiden. Also, isn't Orlando Bloom a little too young to be Liquid? Seriously, I liked Raiden but wanted to shoot Rosemary. No wonder the guy was always complaining!
Rolf Moeller can't be Vulcan Raven as Vulcan Raven was black (at least he looked black). That is, of course, if you want to stick to minute details (as most hardcore fanboys would). Otherwise, he's a fine choice.
The Wachowski Bros. are Hideo Kojima's personal choice if ever there were to be a Metal Gear movie but I'd prefer Tony Scott (the way he directed Spy Game would suit the whole intruige and thinking man's actioner elements that can often be found throughout the Metal Gear games -- minus the action heavy boss fights *l*) or Ridley Scott (the way he directed Black Hawk Down would be perfect for the "Mercenary War" of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) would be good choices. Maybe they should collaborate.
My original directing choice was John Frankenheimer but sadly...
Anyhoo, your other casting choices are great. I never thought of Same Elliot as Shalashaska. Do you really think he can pull of the accent, though? And since this is a movie and would take liberties with the story,
Isn't Hugh Jackman 6'4", Deftones17? I think he's tall enough.

‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie Announced
Columbia Pictures and Kojima Productions have plans to bring “Metal Gear Solid” on to the big screen.
During the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary presentation, producer Avi Arad (“X-Men,” “Spider-Man”) announced the video game adaptation is in the works.
“For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters—and video games are the comics of today,” said Arad. “We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, idealogy, cautionary tales needed.”
The video game was developed by Konami for the PlayStation console that featured terrific cut scenes, voice acting and combat scenes. The storyline follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to eliminate a terrorist threat.
The video game was originally released in 1998. It later spawned many sequels, prequels and spin-offs for videos and with several comics and novels.
Specific details for the movie were not revealed at this time, but we will update as we hear more on this project.

I can think of at least one member who should be excited.
Agreed.
It's more like the Fanny & Alexander of video games.

Brother! *shakes fist*
Last I heard about 2 years ago, Bale said he was going to be Solid Snake. That was the last of it. I still think Hugh Jackman would be a better fit for my movie version.

I hope they turn the character into a girl. It only makes more sense. Also, why the patch? It's stupid. What is he, a pirate? No thanks dude in patch! They need a hot girl, I'm thinking Elle Fanning or Abigail Breslin. What's with all the black too? She needs to wear like a kimono and use swords or something. Then it could be good.
Oh, and there should be Nazis or like, zombie Nazis that she has to fight and when she cuts off the Zombie Hitler's head it flies to the moooooooon!!!

Actually the metal gear I'm wanting is the old school solid snake from 8-bit land where he was sneaking on jeeps, hiding in bushes, running away from dogs.
I want to see that on the big screen, where he get's caught and you see huge exclamation marks on top of their heads and Solid Snake has to escape!
P.S: Love the replies!

Exactly. I can't muster any enthusiasm for this now. And for the love of God, if this has to happen, keep Hideo Kojima as far away from the script as possible. He's a Japanese George Lucas: has a big imagination but can't write for shit.

You know, I might be interested in this if they got Mel Gibson as Solid Snake:

Yes, Michael Biehn was the original basis for the character but I think Gibson Snake would be all batshit crazy and cool.
