Re: Best perfomance by these actors?

So much of an actor's performance has to do with the script and the direction, it's tough to say "best." I also believe that it is the more subtle performances that are much tougher to pull off than the "yell and scream, lose control" roles.

I thought these were brilliant:

Marlon Brando - Last Tango in Paris, The Freshman
Peter Sellers - Being There
Jack Nisholson - Five Easy Pieces, Postman Always Rings Twice
Sean Penn - Fast Times at Ridgemont High, At Close Range
Clint Eastwood - Outlaw Josey Wales, Play Misty for Me
Robert De Niro - The Deerhunter, Guilty by Suspicion
Steve Buscemi - Parting Glances, Fargo
Robert Carlyle - Trainspotting, Angela's Ashes
James Stewart - Harvey, Glenn Miller Story
Christopher Walken - Things to do in Denver When You're Dead, At Close Range

Marlon Brando - A Streetcar Named Desire
Peter Sellers - Dr. Strangelove (although I'll remember him most for The Pink Panther)
Jack Nicholson - One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
Sean Penn - Dead Man Walking
Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven (although my favorite is the Man with No Name)
Robert De Niro - Raging Bull (I never would have thought DeNiro would be a good boxer if I didn't see it)
Steve Buscemi - Fargo
Robert Carlyle - Trainspotting (I'm surprised that many people on this board don't know him. At least you've seen him in The World is Not Enough, right?)
James Stewart - Mr. Smith goes to Washington (Although he did many other great films, including Hitchcock movies, when I think Jimmy Stewart, I think Capra)
Christopher Walken - The Deer Hunter
