I'm there on Friday...

Eminem is a natural actor...he's slated to star opposite DMX in a movie as well.

Eminem = Real

They had a screening at Michigan State, and the audience loved it.

I'm sort of on the fence on this one. The movie actually looks pretty good. Maybe I'll go see it.

I saw this movie last night at a special free screening presented by Nissan at my college. First, it was mad crazy, they always have free screenings at my school, like a couple a quarter. They pass out tickets the day before the movie. That line was so freaking long. People started lining up 2 hours before. and it was just crazy because alot of people cutted or friends saved them spots. It wasn't this bad for Red Dragon. Getting a ticket though doesn't guarantee a seat because they always give out more tickets than seats. You would still have to come early for the movie. The next night, again people started standing in line 2 hours before the movie started! The movie started at 7, so at 6 they let people in. At 6:30 they place was near capacity (800). At 6:40 they closed the doors, people who should came after that and had tickets were very mad some people threw stuff at the door. Also, they had caught 3 people trying to use counterfeit tickets (they weren't that hard to copy if you had the right stock of yellow paper). they just ran. now, this is for a movie that opens in 2 days. how crazy is that or how cheap these fans are just to save money.

Ok now to the movie...I'm a rap fan, not really a big Eminem fan but I do like his music. The movie was gritty and dark, the locations were really authentic. Acting was top notch, even the supporting roles. The freestyle battles were awesome, especially the latter ones. Unforenately the movie was easily predictable. All you have to do is see the trailer. Also the relationship thing between Rabbit(eminem) and his mom was like ?? and rabbit and his ex-gf (not britany murphy) (??) it was like ok Please develop this more. Also the ending some people may or may not like it I can't say, though I would say it is an effective ending. The whole movie had music tracks galore from the good old days (pre1995). Overall though, I would recommend this movie because it leaves you pumped up when you leave the theatre. you would probably like it more if you're into rap and stuff. there was alot of funny parts in the movie. some people were confused because they thought the movie was about Eminem's life. they were like "i thought his mom did crack and stuff..."

I'm sure this movie will be big this weekend even if its Rated R, come on what else is opening? Femme Fatale? Also I can't wait for the DVD because I really want to see the thoughts of the director and producer when making this movie, and since its Universal.....DTS!!!

Saw this last night. The opening night crowd was mostly 20 and 30 somethings. They were actually checking IDs at the door.

I went into this being a huge Eminem fan. I think he can act well, and look forward to future endeavours on his part. I admit it wasn't a stretch to play this part, but he's got potential.

The movie had good pacing, not too slow, but didn't move too fast either. It was kinda frustrating waiting for the good freestyle battles, but the wait was worth it! By the time the movie was over, I looked at my watch and couldn't believe the 1:51 had passed so quickly. I wanted more, but I'll just wait for the DVD now.

My friend and his teenager want to go watch this movie tonight... Is it appropriate for 15 year old teenagers? or should we go catch something more tame?

It's not that bad, pretty mild for an "R" rated movie I think. Just a lot of cussing, a couple of sex scenes. I've seen worse.

Saw it. Thought it was a solid movie, and I typically hate anything to do with rap. Rather than act as a caricature, Eminem seemed to underplay his role with great effect. He truly came across as a human character.
I think it helped that this was a movie done by a "real" director and producer rather than some vanity project churned out by a stuido extension of a record company.
While I am certain this weekend will truly be Eminem and 8 Mile's "one shot" at making major money with the family themed holiday movies around the corner, it looks as though it will be a good sum. The theater I saw it at had sold out all night showings as well as the late show. The audience was really into it as well, so it made for a good experience.

It made $20 mil on Friday alone, though that was probably front-loaded with the Eminem hardcore fans rushing out like what happened with Jackass.

Saw it tonight and reall enjoyed it. It developed the charactors well and had a good script. The direction was great as was the acting. I was impressed by Eminems acting, eventhough he was just playing himself.

I hear lots of people say this, as if it makes it any easier to pull off... Have you ever tried to act "as yourself" in front of a camera... not very easy to do... without the proper acting skills, it will come off very stiff and unbelievable...even though you'd feel you were doing a great job well, ok, maybe it's a bit easier...but the fact that Em pulls it off 100% is pretty damn impressive...

Average movie at best. Very predictable. I think this story line has been done many times before. Someone said it was very much like the trailer and I would have to agree.

True, the film was predictable. It was more or less Rocky set in the Michigan ghetto with music as the backdrop as opposed to boxing.
Also, like the first Rocky, it kept its focus on the characters, which is why I hope they don't make a sequel to this one.

Um...cooper2000, let me know when you actually see the film, okay?

Secondly,

The Merriam-Webster dictionary states that an actor is one who acts; one who represents a character in a dramtic production; a theatrical performer; one that behaves as if acting a part; one that takes part in any affair

And I do believe Eminem represented a character in a dramatic production, behaved as if acting a part, and the movie was an actual affair.

Hell anyone could act, it is a matter of if they could do it good or not.

So he isn't a MOVIE STAR, but an actor and a movie star are two completely different things. (Yeah, you may have the few who are considered both because they can act and bring in the bucks, but most of the time you don't. )

Third,

Who knows Kim Basinger might have wanted to do the film because of Eminem...but we all know that she either did it for Curtis Hanson (who directed L.A. Confidential which she won an Oscar for - or she needed the work and money.)

Please, don't think you dissed me from a few questions. I got you on these.

This movie was very well done. I was pleasantly surprised by the entire movie. Eminem portrayed himself very good in this film, while Basinger was her top notch self in a supporting role. The sex scene was mouth watering, and the whole atmosphere was very well directed.

It entertained me for 2 hours, but it did drag a little in the middle of the film. This is enough for me to recommend it to my friends and family. The movie is rated AA up here in Canda (a notch below R), and there were young kids being brought to this movie, which is disturbing, especially with the softcore-porn sex scenes.

On a side note:

There are A LOT of eminem haters in this board, and I am sick and tired of the various comments about how the movie will suck cause Em is in it, or how the can't support anything with his name on it. Fine. Then don't support him, leave your negative comments to yourself, and why would you open threads in the first place just to say this ****?

I hope to GOD that Criterion produces this dvd, just so all the intellectuals who are better than us, will have to buy it.

to all you

I generally don't care for rap/hip-hop whatever, but I saw this flick Saturday and really enjoyed it. The average crowd in the showing I saw was probably late 20's to early 30's. Wide range of people too, white, black, hispanic, male, female. Not the young wannabe rap punk crowd I was expecting. I thought it was very well paced and had some pretty good humor.

I may actually run out and pick up The Eminem Show.

Hmm...I NEVER thought I would say that

I did see it Concience(matinee), just to proove you wrong and I went in with an open mind.
Gotta say there were some good scenes but overall its still a movie about a punk and I dont like movies about Punks.

I havent seen the totals but the tastes that moviegoers have these days, I am sure they will make this a big movie. Its a movie about dumb people and people like to feel smarter than what they are seeing. Look how good Jackass is doing.

I would rather see Cool as Ice than this.

I went out to see the movie tonight. It's basically the Eminem true holiwood movie without all that distracting truth. It's not a bad movie, kudoos to Hanson.

Athough you may consider Eminem an actor I wouldn't consider him an actor with any range still he may surprise me in the future though I doubt it. That including the movie Wash which didn't a good actor in the entire movie.

Also when is Eminem gonna get a frickin' sense of humor anytime some "disses" him he acts like a b?tch. He couldn't even take a joke from Triumph the insult comic dog. If you can't take a joke from a hand puppet you got some seroius problems.
