Saw Kevin Smith interviewed by Janet Maslin this weekend
at this event
The screening was for the awesome flick A Man for All Seasons, one of Kevin's favorite films. Great interview after the flick, in which he said:
1. He didn't really like Spiderman
2. He won't direct a SuperHero movie
3. He though Oceans 11 was great
4. Jay and Silent Bob probably won't return, because like the Pauly Shore effect, he fears that one day people will wake up and say "F Jay and Silent Bob"
5. One of his top 5 favorite movies is...JFK.
6. Don't bother with film school unless you're going to be a critic or cinematographer.
7. Pondered how his film budgets went from $27,575 for Clerks to 35 million for Jersey Girl.
He is one funny dude. Has a potty mouth, too.

1) I didn't like Spiderman.
2) Why wouldn't he direct a superhero movie?
3) I thought Ocean's Eleven was a great movie, too.
4) Jay and Silent Bob having their own movie was a bad idea in the first place, in hindsight.
5) I never saw JFK.
6) ha!
7) coz its just too tempting
he probably always was a potty mouth. and he is funny. wish he supported digital video though.

He said DV didn't have the same look as film. He did take a DV movie from some pimply faced teenager in the front row. The kid had balls for asking if he would take it.
Re: the superhero thing...he said once a film has been made the director's vision of what the comic should be becomes what people know...and takes something away. (i.e. Raimi's Spidey will become the standard, and somehow diminish the greatness of the comic)
I almost forgot...some woman was gushing about how great it was that Alanis Morisette appeared in Dogma.
Smith said it wasn't that he thought the Supreme Being was female....just Canadian.
