Who Liked Panic Room?

I've spoken with many people (friends & relatives) and it seems that I am the only person who actually liked this movie.

paradicelost 10-26-02 11:48 AM

I loved Panic Room. Some of the camera shots were just awesome. Nice Sig by the way

Goat3001 10-26-02 11:59 AM

Panic Room was great IMO

Tscott 10-26-02 12:17 PM

Raises hand.:) Very good film.

SIDEBAR: I think a lot of fans were dissapointed that it wasn't another "Fight Club" complete with mind bending twists. Instead they got a well-crafted, straight-foward, suspence thriller and hated it because there was no "twist" ending. (IMO, the same thing happened to Signs.)

Nesbit 10-26-02 01:11 PM

I thought it was enjoyable. The only reason I was disapointed was because I felt it was the first Fincher film that didn't get better with repeated viewings.

I did, I did! Of course, I just love Jodie Foster. I once watched three Ronald Reagan movies in a row to impress her...

PixyJunket 10-26-02 02:05 PM

I thought it was fun! Haven't got the DVD yet though.

Mourn 10-26-02 02:35 PM

Since you asked, I didn't like it.

marty888 10-26-02 02:41 PM

Liked it a lot - simple, straight-forward thriller that was well-crafted and well-acted. Not another Fight Club? Of course not, it wasn't supposed to be!

I went in expecting it to be pretty bad but I was pleasently suprised. I can do without some of the CGI shots that zoom into things like flashlights but other than that it was quite entertaining.

NavinJohnson 10-26-02 10:57 PM

I liked it very much. Not sure if I'll pick up the dvd yet, but maybe down the road.

Tony Block 10-26-02 10:59 PM

It was pretty good, but it was still disappointing for a David Fincher film.

cheers, Tony Block

SpaceBoy 10-26-02 11:41 PM

I thought it was really good actually. However, this may be a result of expecting the worst, because of other discussion on this board.

Tyler_Durden 10-27-02 12:43 AM

I like it very much as well. Not a masterpiece by any standards, but a very effective thriller that makes great use of the surroundings. Fincher always directs his movies to a hilt and thus has the power to make even a potentially bland scenario interesting.

Perhaps I could have done without the final coda, though.

I thought I was reading Tscott's SIDEBAR again. :)

I agree with Tony Block completely. I won't be buying it.

1. Fight Club
2. The Game
3. Se7en
4. Panic Room
5. Alien 3

I think that is all he has directed. I like them in that order, so that isn't saying too much for Panic Room, though it was enjoyable. Not really twisty like his other movies, just a straight forward story. 7.5/10

costanza187 10-27-02 06:24 PM

It wasn't bad

chipmac 10-27-02 11:33 PM

I watched it late Saturday night and thought it was very well written and directed. The performances weren't the actors best but were adequate. It was much better than I was expecting. Then I watched it again with my wife on Sunday night and i enjoyed just as much but after it was finished the wife commented that the ending was anti-clamatic to her although she enjoyed how suspencfull it was. I think she was expecting a certain somebody to come back for revenge at the end since she's come to look foward to shock endings.

I liked it a lot - great camera work, Forest Whitaker was good, Dwight Yoakam played another good creep, and any movie w/ Jodie Foster is good as long as she isn't playing a long-lost girl in the woods who speaks gobbly-gook.

joeydaninja 10-28-02 12:14 PM

I do! : )

I liked it coz I walked into the theater, not expecting much but a visual extravaganza, and wasn't disappointed. watching david fincher turn that house inside out with superb camera magic was just fantastic. Jodie Foster is a great actress, and didn't disappoint. Neither did Whitaker, Leto, that country singer and that new kid.

Watching a David Fincher movie is like having the ability to walk through walls. Just turn off your brain, and enjoy the ride.

Agreed. I loved how everything was close in proximity and intimate...gave the film a very clostrophobic feel, which only enhanced the intense situation. Very well shot and directed, as well as acted by foster, whitaker, and the others.

However, I still say it's just merely a solid film. Nothing ground breaking, nothing exceedingly special, not too fantastic. Just solid and entertaining enough.

Oh, and despite the crap packaging, the DVD looks and sounds tremendous.

Jaycee 10-28-02 04:03 PM

I liked Panic Room. May be not excellent but very Good.

Iron_Giant 10-28-02 04:45 PM

Loved it in the theater and loved it on DVD. The filming was dark but well done. Lots of twists and turns in the movie. Had one of my favorite actresses in it. The kid really did look like her daughter.

My wife thought it was ok.

To each there own.
