Best Film of 1965 (ongoing survey)
A quick note:
I know we've got polls like this all the time around here, but I figure this one will be a little more comprehensive and perhaps even informative.
This thread will be for your pick for best film released during 1965 (think Oscar considerations for what's eligible). I'm not making it a poll because whether you like it or not, that would influence some people's choice.
Results will be posted in this thread, and all subsequent threads for each year, and they will be ongoing... so you can still vote here even weeks after other year's polls have begun.
Please start your post with your #1 film from 1965 (try to limit it to one - after all, that's the point - two at the most (I'll split the vote)), and yes, discussions are more than welcome!

- Some people are now saying it's before their time, so they haven't seen enough to vote... If you've seen even one film that you really liked from the year, and thus you consider it the best you've seen (even if it's the only one you've seen), go ahead and vote. Heck, I was born in '82, so yeah, it's before my time too, but I've still got a favorite from most years back at least through the 70s, even if I've just seen 2 or 3 from the year.

My vote goes to my favorite Lean film (it ain't LOA or Bridge - sue me!):
1) Doctor Zhivago - 9/10
2) The Sound of Music - 9/10
Unfortunately, the only other films I've seen from the year are The War Game and Alphaville, 2 other good pictures.
Oscars:
Best Picture:
The Sound of Music
Darling
Doctor Zhivago
Ship of Fools
A Thousand Clowns

This isn't a year from the 30's or 40's, but I believe it was a rather good year for movies none the less. I'm sure I've left some out but here's my list. If I see some listed (or remember) any that I've missed, I'll add them later.

But anyway, that's my simple opinion, and a debate for another thread.
IMHO, the 60's were a drab generation for films as well, but my pick for the best of 1965 would be Akira Kurosawa's Akahige (aka Red Beard). The movie that would be the last union between said director and the late great Toshiro Mifune.

Consider this the resurrection.
Dr. Zhivago leads this one right now, and it's doubling the next best vote getter. But considering how few votes have been cast so far, I'll leave it open for now.
1) Dr. Zhivago - 7 votes
2) Red Beard - 3.5
3) For a Few Dollars More / The Sound of Music - (2 each)
