He's the best of all time, IMO.

Originally posted by Scot1458 I didn't catch your name at first...great series! Dimension X and X Minus One are still, to me the best Sci-Fi Radio ever done. Agreed on the Price story, he was incredible on radio, espeically on Suspense. Another golden great that worked well on radio was Peter Lorre, his voice was made for radio. |
Originally posted by Dimension X rotfl A big  to Peter Lorre. One of the greats. http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Mptv/1083/3570-0002.jpg Now that's quite a bit of talent in this picture!!! |
Lorre could play his sterotypical mad evil charcter as he was known for, he could play the shaddy charcter in a straight film (like the picutre above) and he could play a hapless innocent assistant to a prof (20,000 Leagues) and he nailed them every time.
A great B actor. He did a few non Supsense radio shows....including a bit part on a LIGHTS OUT show, and man he goes insane right on tape and really makes you shurdder! |
Is that Lights Out the one where he says something about eating brains? I remember something like that, but it's probably been over ten years since I heard it. Guess I need to dig through the old cassettes.
|
I really need to see his Westerns.
Some of my favorites: Glenn Miller Story Vertigo Rear Window Harvey If I didn't list his more popular ones, it's because I'm still trying to get around to seeing them too. -David |
Blade
Get THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALLANCE You get Steward, a great Wayne, a FANTASTIC Lee Marvin, and a slew of other great B actors. Dimension Yes, it was one of Arch Obler's shows with 5 mini stories in it including THE DARK..the one where the bodies are torn inside out right on radio! Lorre's part is a cannibal. |
What are your top 10 James Stewart movies? For me this is extremely difficult as he and Cary Grant are my favorite male actors of all-time. He was a great guy. |
I don't know if any other Jimmy Stewart fans would be interested in this or not, but I found a DVD while browsing in Borders called Educational Archives #3: Driver's Ed. which has 10 driver's safety films on it. One of the films called Tomorrow's Drivers is narrated by Jimmy Stewart. It's an 11 minute movie produced by Chevrolet in 1954 that showcases a cradle to grave driver's education system that supposedly was used in Phoenix.
It's an odd little film, but if you enjoy voice acting, Jimmy Stewart is (as always) in top form. DDD has the DVD for $17.99. |
Hard to pick just 10!
1. Rear Window 2. After the Thin Man 3. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 4. Vertigo 5. The Philadelphia Story 6. The Man from Laramie 7. Rope 8. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 9. Anatomy of a Murder 10. The Man Who Knew Too Much |
"Heeeyyy! Which way to Ireland?"

Here are my Top 8 (since they are the only ones I recall seeing):
1. It's a Wonderful Life 2. Rear Window 3. Harvey 4. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 5. The Philadelphia Story 6. Vertigo 7. Rope 8. The Man Who Knew Too Much By the way, does anyone remeber when Dana Carvey used to do impressions of him on SNL? Those were some of my favorite skits, especially the one mocking It's a Wonderful Life and the one where he reads the poem about his dog on Weekend Update. |
I would put The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance right there with Rear WIndow right below IAWL. It's not a typical western...there's a melancholy tone to the movie that I just love.
|
If you haven't seen his revenge themed westerns with director Anthony Mann, check them out. All excellent and all intense. I believe that The Man From Laramie is the only one on dvd so far though.

I hadn't seen ANY Jimmy Stewart movies up until two months ago (if you can believe it  )...but since then, I've seen four (Wonderful Life, Vertigo, Mr. Smith, Anatomy of a Murder) and liked them all very much! Great actor!
Shame that IMDb reviewer in my other thread didn't like his persona. |

Great actor! Shame that IMDb reviewer in my other thread didn't like his persona. I think you will love all his movies:thumbsup: BTW: That thread is great........... IMDb user comments for Anatomy of a Murder (1959) ([email protected]) weber city, va Date: 16 November 2001 Summary: a 0 this is the first james stewart film i've ever seen, and i've really tried to avoid seeing any of his films, because i hated his personality that he portrayed, and he was exactly 100% what i expected him to be in this film...he was so annoying. this is a piece of trash. he smokes all the time, he is married to a stupid cigarette butt during the entire movie...it's like a sick marriage ceremony. complete ignorance by his character for making fun of someone that drank alcohol...at least alcohol in moderation is good for the heart, but smoking there's nothing good about it at all. completely stupid. no one will care at all about the story because there's too much drug use in this film. this film might have even started the hippie/drug era in the 70's...who knows? rotfl This guy is some piece of work:eek: |
Originally posted by Vampyr BTW: That thread is great........... -eek-:hscratch:-eek- rotfl This guy is some piece of work:eek: My goodness, I am trying very hard to not laugh so loud at work. But how does one know exactly what to expect from James Stewart having never seen a movie? For that matter how can one hate James Stewart and how can one hate him without ever having seen one of his movies? Although in retrospect, it seems that Anatomy of a Murder most likely DID start the hippie/drug era! |
Not to mention his projection of contemprary knowledge and attitudes on a fifties film.
Can you say, Born Yesterday. -rolleyes- |
