Annoying New Trailer Trend

I don't understand the "need to see everything in the trailer in the final film" philosophy anyway. You've already seen the scene, you saw it in the trailer, so why do you need to see it again? Personally, I'd prefer trailers to have more exclusive footage, as long as it doesn't misrespresent what the film is actually about/like. Also, I'd side with Julie and be more concerned about trailers that are later edited to remove the deleted, and sometimes exclusive, footage from the trailer.

Every movie doesn't need to be sold like it's the Indy 500. I'm sure today a trailer for Driving Miss Daisey would have a heart-pounding sequence with some quick flashes of Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman with their eyes wide open in shock and some sped up footage of the car coming out of the driveway and sucession slo-mo diptoblack/BOOM! shots of Morgans hand reaching for the car door handle.

In case your copy/paste buttons are broken.
I think my favorite trailer is the South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut. It starts out leading you in one direction, and then when you get to the reveal, it's just perfect.

CYGNET74...
If you visit the site you can hear his voice demo... you are right...you probably have never heard his name b4...and thats for several good reasons...but i know you have heard his voice, provided you have ever been to a movie theater or watched television b4 ... his identity has pretty much kept his identity a secret untill recently...previously he has strictly been just a voice...never any work on camera...with one exception that i know of and that was like 20 yrs ago. <hosting the ESPY Awards> Like any other average person he values his privacy...and likes to be able to go out into public places without recognition...is not a glutton for fame i suppose i could politely say...
If you havent listened to his demo on the site here is a line i am sure you can relate to.... Ed is the guy who does the voice advertising in movie theaters for moviefone.com saying..... ""...for movies, showtimes, even tickets, say hello to moviefone.com.."" along with countless other movie trailers...and national tv commercials and narrations <National Geographic>.
thanks to modern technology...ie the internet...and SONY pro audio softwares...both Ed and myself have home based studios....no need to go from one studio to the next. In recent years though Ed has pursued other work outside the mainstream of Hollywood.
Now we are actively pursuing getting on camera work...mostly talk shows...Letterman...Leno....etc... Finally revealing his face after all of these years.
Hope this clarifies a few things for ya....and who ever else reads this.
Again...below is the address to the website....scroll down on the first page to hear his audio demo...is about 7 minutes with about 20 clips... enjoy.

it was disingenuous (to say the least) to claim he originated "In a world..." considering Don La Fontaine was awarded a lifetime achievement at the 2005 Key Art Awards for this and many other reasons. George Del Hoyo, Andy Gellar, Hal Douglas, Ben Patrick Johnson, Ashton Smith, Tony Rodgers, Justin Peed and Melissa Disney... i've worked with them all on trailers i've cut at The Ant Farm.

Well perhaps I should retract that statement, and say that Ed was "one of the first to use that line." This much I can say with complete assurance, and also know he has used this line many times in many years past. I am not sure if that line first originated from the writings of a voiceover artist or a writer from some film company. I will make some calls and speak with Ed as my interest in this topic now has me a little puzzled. I have never read or watched an interview where any one person has taken full credit as the author or first to speak to that all so famous line. Years ago I asked Ed out of simple curiosity on this and we had a brief conversation on this topic, I cant exactly remember his reply. It was just a little question I had and never knew that this one little line would be as famous as it now is today...however I plan to speak with him today and get a little more light on this. I do know this line has been around since the 1980's at least... and it's true "author" may no longer be known...as far as who first spoke it, I too would like to know out of curiosity. This catch phrase like many others often origionate very modestly with no intent on having the popularity they can sometimes achieve. There is a chance that one could go to all the top people and get an uncertain or mixed answers. However after today I hope to have a little more info on this to pass on.
Cheers.

Perhaps La Fontaine may have spoke this line first, I know he got a lifetime achievement award... but I have not read any details on him earning this award..ie any one thing in particular... I would like to basically know the author...the one who actually wrote it and the history of it...where it was first used...how it came to be ect. If this is even possible. I will post again when I find out more.

Ok heres the scoop from Hollywood and NYC on the catchy phrase "" In A World...." My client and good friend Ed Green <national voice artist...tv and box office www.StarLineEntertainment.com > had a conversation a few years ago or so on this very topic...I asked him of it ....however until recently I forgot his answer back then as it was just a random question at the time...and long ago too. Then recently a few years later I came across this site and felt compelled to answer... I thought it was Eddie who said these words first and was how I first claimed....I was wrong... Some people told me NO it was Hal Douglas....others insisted LaFontaine was the first and I thought it was Eddie...After I called and spoke with Ed recently, I now remember those fine details long ago I had forgot. After we talked I now remember what I did not the first time we spoke on this topic. It was not Eddie.... Hal Douglas...or Don LaFontaine even...but 30 something years b4 either one of these 3 first got into the voice biz.
This obviously is a well used classic and "generic" phrase...we all can agree on that. I have investigated this question and now feel comfortable enough to give a well researched and satisfactory answer. I've been told from some top people in the voiceover biz that it's roots extend well back b4 the days of the silverscreen era ...pre 1940's. Talking more like the 1930's here folks. We actually are going back a decade even before the silverscreen era...to the days of the first sci-fi comics and sci-fi radio shows. War Of The Worlds.....Orson Wells days. Whoever first coined this catchy phrase is long past... or at least long out of the movie biz that is. 70 some odd years ago. This phrase has been around since the early days of American radio and is uncertain if first roots are from an influence from comic books of this time or by a writer of an old sci-fi radio program. One thing is sure... this is not a modern movie phrase. It's roots go far deeper even than I imagined. Now ends this once perpetual question.

This thread was good for two things; a laugh at the shameless promotion, and that trailer for "Comedian," which I'd never seen. Thanks for the resurrection.
Also,
Roeper sure has come a long way in three years. Not a show goes by now that I don't here the phrase, "Roger, that's just crazy," or "Well, I don't agree with that at all, but on to our next film..."
-JP
Also,
In a world where Roeper sheepishly agrees because he loves this gig . . .
BaBump.
