especially since this film was made in 1941 and has
an OAR of 1.37 : 1. So if you are waiting for the
anamorphic widescreen of this one you might want
to just put two peices of duct tape on your TV.
Works every time.

Lighten up. It's called "satire". You've been a member here for over 2 years, I would've thought a veteran would have appreciated that one. Apologies if I offended you.

Well to join the uneducated masses

I don't really enjoy this movie, fairly boring to me.
A lot of the praise handed to this movie is because of what it achieved for its time and the circumstances around it. As far as directing, cinematography, and a few other technical merits I don't see that many redeaming qualities. But I can see why people appreciate it so and give it so much praise, I just feel that there are probably a good 15-20 movies that are better films technically and artisticly.

I am not saying that it is not a great movie, just that it is overrated. The first person to paint on canvas instead of rocks did not create the best painting ever, it should be admired for what it is but not until the impact of that discovery caught on should the real best work come out.

Great movie IMO, not near the best.

Sh*t bro... I do it sometimes too... just to see if anybody is listening (usually with a smiley just so nobody takes me off at the knees)... and I have seen you before so I know that you have been around as long as me (in other words I know that you knew better)... Sorry to take your head off... Have a Happy New Year!

I haven't watched Citizen Kane, but it's not because it's in black and white. There are a lot of older, classic movies I have yet to see. But, I am trying to get around to them...

I rented Citizen Kane after reading all the hype about it, and was extremely dissapointed. I am capable of enjoying black and white movies and I did watch the documentary, so please don't flame me here.

Does it live up to the hype? Absolutely not. This was a film with great cinematography, unlikable characters, an un-engaging plot, and a really worthless ending that does nothing to reward the viewer for sitting through the rest of the movie. In a word? Boring.

Is it overrated? Absolutely. See my synopsis of the film above. I was far more impressed with the documentary, which had me glued to the screen. If the documentary about the movie is more interesting than the movie itself, you have a problem.

What's sooooo good about it? Not much. I understand the cinematography was groundbreaking for its time. The picture quality is great for a movie that old. Those are the only words of praise I can muster.

A woman I work with was complaining that there were no good movies out. I told her to see "Catch Me If You Can."

Her: "Is it any good?"

Me: "Yeah. It's no 'Citizen Kane', but it's enjoyable."

Her: "What's 'Citizen Kane'?

Me: "Sigh"

Yes I have seen Citizen Kane. While I do not consider this film as the best movie of all time, its influence and stature can be easily justified.
