I'd have to say Aliens, i loved the orginal version but i love that 17 extra minutes.
I love those sentry guns!
I would have said The Abyss but i only saw it once and it was many many years ago on late at night (late saturday night movie). I ended up forgetting what happened in the movie and when i bought the SE and watched the Directors Cut it was like i was watching the movie for the first time again.

Wow, I can't belive you people prefer the directors cut of the Abyss, I was very dissapointed with it and thought that the theatrical cut was much better. Anyway, I voted for the Leon - The Professional.

Reindeer Games, Ben Affleck's character is tougher and not such a wimp... changes the whole theme of the movie... for the better IMHO.

Add 'some' depth to Independance Day and you still wouldn't be deep enough to drown a snake.
While not my favourite movie listed, I was impressed by the added scenes to T2. The plot made a more sense and this time around they actually succeeded in getting a bit beyond the usual action movie limitations.

I'd have to say Blade Runner and The Abyss.
Regarding Aliens, I really think the theatrical version is far superior. I won't even get the DVD because I don't care for the director's cut as much as my regular LD version. Why? Well, while the new scenes are neat to see, they really do affect the flow of the movie. Instead of arriving on LV-426 or whatever it is, not knowing what to expect, we've seen it all. I think those early scenes really needed the chop as they really take away from the feeling of arriving on this hostile planet where we don't know what's going on. I did really like the small scene mentioning the daughter, and wish that was left in, though the sentry gun part is take it or leave it.

I'm not saying Independence Day is the best movie made better by adding deleted scenes. I like Independence Day. It's a lot of fun.
But I think it's a prime example of injudicious cutting actually hurting a movie.
I don't know who remembers, but when it came out some reviewers were unhappy because it seemed unreal that Jeff Goldblum could hook up his computer to the alien ship and have, what seemed like, an intuitive knowledge of the ship's controls.
Adding the scenes where Goldblum has the opportunity to explore the crashed alien ship would have eliminated that criticism.
Also, I like Dr. Oakum's line, "You know, you're starting to make us look really bad."

I agree the opening LV426 scene is not that great in Aliens, but the Directors Edition is a lot better because of the Ripley-daughter thing. You understand why now she feels she has to go back - there is nothing left for her on Earth. It also adds a good dimension with Newt - her "adopted" daughter. In the orignal movie, I was always like "ok, she had a nightmare," that is wha

Before I said Blade Runner, but after watching the European theatrical cut more, I think I like it more. What I want now is MORE voiceover! That's right. One of the great things about the 40's noirs is the almost constant voiceover. Blade Runner has a little at the beginning and then even less sprinkled through the rest of the film, and that feels inconsistent. Also, putting a voiceover right after the tears in rain speech was a terrible idea. However, I still like the European cut with its flaws more than the director's cut, for the simple fact that it makes NO sense thematically or logically that Deckard would be a replicant.
So now I would agree with inri222 and movielib about Once Upon A Time In America. Considering that most of the movies with extended and/or director's cuts were pretty good to begin with, and that the studio cut of OUATIA is horrendous, and that the director's cut turned it into a downright masterpiece, that would seem to be the best answer to the question.

And I'd have to agree with you.
