TheHistorian: Beautiful pics! The TT isn't as nice as my Lamborghini, though.

phraseturner: Your mascot pics are freakin' hilarious. Do you work in a costume shop or something?

Rescue Rex is in his tenth season here in Nashville. he goes to Nashville / Davidson County elementary schools (public and private) and performs a 30 minute program about 911 to pre-K to 2nd grades.

an actual call-taker is part of the show, too. we explain what is, and is not an emergency, when to call 911, when not to call, and the importance of memorizing your address and phone number.

the show has 5 songs, dancing, role-playing, and several kids are called up to help during the show. the script, songs, and dancing are new every year. so kids can see a new script every year for three yaers (K, 1st and 2nd). by the time they're in 3rd grade, we've probably gotten through to them.

every year we seem to have a news story where a diabetic mom is out on the floor and the 4 year-old child calls for help. when reporters ask how they know what to do, they say "Rex came to my school and told me."

and for 19 straight months the total number of 911 calls has dropped. fewer bogus 911 calls makes the real ones get dealt with sooner.

got all that?

So you don't work in a costume shop? And here I thought you did something worthwhile. Sellout.
