Tell him to take a hike because the crayons are going to be YOURS!

Something fun:

Do a search for crayons and sort by price. Guess what is the highest priced crayons for sale!

If he wants to bid (as a real crayon collector), then you need to craft a reply that indicates you're REALLY crazy. Tell him that the ICCS is an extremely secretive bunch of collectors and that if he isn't aware of their existence, then he isn't a very professional collector.

Perhaps get him to verify the ICCS with the Color Bunch company. You can niether confirm nor deny their existence :)

Hopefully that should be enough to send the alarm bells ringing and run a mile. If not, and he does bid, perhaps you could cancel his bid based on the fact that you don't believe he is a worthy contender" for something as precious as these.

The last thing you want is for him to actually win the auction. If someone outside the joke did win and were expecting something rare, then the legal ramifications could get pretty nasty. It's only really safe if it's only able to be won by someone "in the know".

oh man i don't know if I can wait until thursday for my chance to own these crayons!.... arrrgh!

Munchos 07-15-03 07:44 PM

This is a classic thread. It's currently at $70 and already has 45 bids.

strife 07-15-03 07:53 PM

yea who raising the bid on me?

twikoff 07-15-03 07:55 PM

schizopak 07-15-03 08:07 PM

you need a few random bids or it will get even more suspicious. Not that a set of crayons going for over $70 isn't suspicious.

twikoff 07-15-03 08:22 PM

remember:
Dont Go Too High, Too Soon! This Auction Has Several Days Left!!!

and keep in mind.. there is an agreement that when the auction ends.. the final 3 high bidders will all chip in to split preachers ebay fees.

RoQuEr 07-15-03 08:34 PM

high bidder for 4 minutes....

damn familypetdog....

cultshock 07-15-03 08:44 PM

I can just imagine the sniping insanity that will take place in the last hour of this auction.

Anyone care to wager on how high the winning bid will be? :)

Only dumb people :)

And no, I'm not making comment at anyone, I just love using that comeback to "there is no such thing as a dumb question"

jdpatri 07-16-03 08:55 AM

I don't know what kind of Ebay ratings you guys want to include to lend an extra air of legitimacy to this auction... mine's an unblemished 58.

I just feel like after reading all 17 pages of this thread, I need to contribute something to the madness. :)

The email by the real crayon collector/hiker was priceless.

Of course, now I'll have to tell this whole story to my wife... who actually does work during the day and doesn't have time to read such fantastic shenanegans. lol

I think it would be hilarious to see it over a grand... and with the Otters, I have no doubt it'll end up pretty high.

It's worth several bucks in fees from a few of us for the entertainment this thread has brought.

Venusian 07-16-03 09:05 AM

But if the buyer doesn't pay then the seller doesn't have to pay the ebay fees, correct?
