I got in on this thread a couple of weeks ago, but I was too busy laughing to get a response in. I have not laughed this much in my life. Who would have ever expected some of these twists?! The final plan is simply put...genius.

I will bid on the crayons.

Thanks for all these laughs...

Ooops. Project Mayhem finally got another post in the thread. Time to close due to length. 13 pages.

What if after the close of the auction with the crayons selling for a high bid of say $200, the crayons only were then mailed back to this guy with a thanks for your winning bid and enjoy your rare crayons note?

That would leave him with a moral delima that would be interesting to watch.

Will he e-mail Preacher about the error, put them back up for auction with his first high starting bid or just stick them up his butt?

Well, I opened the typewriter today. $25.63 to ship. And, the typewriter looks worse than it does in the photos. I'll post some pictures later, but lets just say the mold has covered much of the upper right part of the keyboard, making it difficult to tell exactly where some keys are. It's definately more than a "little" mold. Smells deliciously funky.

Oh yes, it's heavy too. Like impossibly heavy. Like if the thing was a solid piece of lead, I'm not sure it could be any heavier. I can understand now how typewriters were used to kill people in the past. It was a bitch just to lift out of the box.

There are some dates inside the machine, where the keys are, the latest date is 4/60. I have not plugged it in to see if it really works. I likely never will.

I was originally going to take this to a thrift store on south congress, but I'm afraid even they won't take it. Any ideas on what to do?

I love it, letter and all.
Yes don't go crazy on the bidding immediately.
Can't wait to see the end result of the reaction of the original seller.

wouldn't it be funny if a NON-DvdTalker won the auction!?
I mean, if somebody just stumbles upon it and figures "wow this must be a collectible" gotta get it!

Is now the time to invoke the "no pimping your own ebay auction" rule?

at the Das Boot edition in the auction header.

After reading the 8 pages last night, I had a strange experience today related to this thread. Went to Target this afternoon, and in the bed of a truck parked next to me was a typewriter. Seriously.
And in the empty space next to it.........crayons! I didn't stick around to see if there were any straws or surgical devices lying around.

Add more to the descirption. It seems way to fishy to be up to $45 already with a 3 sentence description. Add some fake e-mails that you have gotten like..

"I have waitied for many years for these Crayons to come up on auction. As part of a Crayon Collecting Club, we have waited for years for these Type G crayons to be available, especially from someone who actually know's what thay are. Would you be willing to end the auction early? I could offer you $160 plus shipping (Insured of course! If one Tip breaks...). PLEASE Get back to me!"

I think they need to be reminded that the crayons are not really meant for your ass.

Let's put a little hedge on the betting. As suggested by naught jonny let's have the top 3 bidders will split the Ebay fees that will be produced by this war. Seem fair?

As for what I do if someone else wins the bidding war outside of us? That's a thinker. "Buy it Now" has both a good and bad side. It will act as the bookmark it was intended to be should this auction continue how it is going. On the other hand it may cause someone to insanely jump in and buy it. That's a hard one to explain to someone.

As for some of the lack of details. Not as detailed as my normal auctions will be but it will hopefully work as a buffer to stop any insane outside purposes. And hey who is crayoncollectorusa?
