Sleeping With The Enemy extended cut
Just FYI, I got the Australian R4 DVD of Sleeping With The Enemy and it's actually an extended version of the theatrical U.S. release. The first love scene between Martin & Laura is extended by about a minute at least. It's not noted anywhere on the packaging, but I did compare it with my laserdisc (just in case I was forgetting, since It's been a while since I've seen the movie) and there's definitely new stuff there!

...received these two DVDs from Italy yesterday:
° Valerio Zurlini's 1976 Il Deserto dei Tartari
- released by Istituto Luce / Region2/PAL / DVD-9 SS-DL RSDL / 141 minutes / anamorphic 1.85:1 / Italian DD 2.0 Stereo / Italian DD 5.1 Remastered / Spanish DD 1.0 Mono / optional Italian and English subtitles / extras: Interview with Giuliano Gemma (Italian only) / original trailer
- my rating: Movie: ***/**** - DVD: excellent
http://onfilm.chireader.com/MovieCaps/D/DE/20218_DE SERT_OF_THE_TARTARS.html
° Nanni Moretti's 2001 Cannes 'Golden Palm' winner La Stanza del Figlio
- released by WB / Region2/PAL / DVD-9 SS-DL RSDL / 95 minutes / non-anamorphic 1.66:1 letterbox / Italian DD 2.0 Stereo / optional English and French subs, Italian captions for the HoH / extras: interview with Nanni Moretti / short film Il giorno della prima di Close Up / original trailer, plus trailers for six other Nanni Moretti movies / filmographies
...haven't watched that disc yet (noticed, just in time, that I'd run out of Kleenex - which, from all reports, you need a lot of when watching this movie ...

Scottish Historical Films
There are a few Scottish historical films available from UK sources that are not available on DVD in the US. Cromwell Films, the production company, specializes in documentaries on military strategy using re-enactment groups for extras. The films listed mix dramatic scenes with established actors (Oliver Reed, Brian Blessed) with battle scenes using reenacters (the same strategy Ted Turner used on a larger scale in GETTYSBURG).
1746--THE LAST HIGHLAND CHARGE (CHASING THE DEER)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0109405
THE BRUCE
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0115766
Having seen VHS copies (that were avaialble in the US) I can say that CHASING THE DEER is quite good and THE BRUCE is good but confusing if you are unfamiliar with scottish history.
For background information on the battles in question, Cromwell has compiled 3 of its strategic documentaries (BANNOCBURN, CULLODEN and STIRLING BRIDGE) that cover the historical incidents on a DVD called SCOTTISH BATTLES.
NB. I ordered these 3 titles from Amazon.UK. While THE BRUCE played fine in my Malata N-966, I had problems with CHASING THE DEER and SCOTTISH BATTLES: CTD will play the supplemental features but freezes when you try to play the movie; SB loads fine but freezes when you try to select one of the battles to play. I am returning these discs for repalcements and will post if the new versions paly without problems.

The Delta Force
Moonstruck
In addition, for The Delta Force, there are English subtitles which is a big help over the American version where MGM removed the burned in English subtitles (and there are otherwise no English subtitles, although there are Spanish and French subtitles) in a film where there is a lot of nonEnglish spoken. I don't know if the burned in subtitles are back in but at the very least you can activate the English subtitles when you need them.
Also, the following film is OAR in R2 UK (but not in the US):
Anatomy of Murder

RKO Tarzans / THE FACE OF FU MANCHU
There are two budget priced TARZAN collections available from Australia (I got mine from EZYDVD). Each DVD has three RKO Tarzan features. The quality of the prints used are fair to good, and they were transferred to DVD well. Vol. 1 has TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS, TARZAN AND THE LEOPARD WOMEN, and TARZAN AND THE AMAZONS. Vol. 2 has TARZAN TRIUMPHS, TARZAN'S DESERT MYSTERY, and TARZAN AND THE HUNTRESS.
I hadn't seen any of these movies since seeing them as a kid on television, so I was pleased to watch pretty good presentations at a cheap price.
Another childhood favorite, THE FACE OF FU MANCHU (or LE MASQUE DE FU-MANCHU) is available on DVD from France. French subtitles are optional. Good, anamorphic presentation of the movie, and extras include: short videotape interview with Christopher Lee discussing the film, short discussion of the film - in French - by some enthusiast of the film, trailers, stills, and promotional materials.

Blood Oath, a great film about Australian POWs under Japanese control, and their story of surviving and dying under the brutalities of war, is available in Australia. For those Russell Crowe completists, this is a great one.

Could someone confirm if "The Piano Teacher" DVD set for release on 6/25 is exclusive to Canada? I've only found listings at 2 Canadian sites, and a search on DVDPriceSearch and BargainFlix shows no such listing. Thank you!

Here are a couple of new British releases:
Croupier: This is an enormous improvement over the Canadian version if you can play region 2 PAL. It features a commentary by director Mike Hodges and is anamorphic widescreen.
Kagemusha: Kurosawa's 2nd to last samarai movie. This new DVD has no extras.
