I agree with the above that you should wait till your in your house before you get the car, its only putting that on hold for a month or two.

I'm kind of in the same situation as him. But I live in NYC, the land of the $1500 studio. Anyway I was in the military for 8 years and now live with the folks until I save money for some real estate. In the last 2 years I've saved a lot of money. I don't have a car at all, and won't get one until I buy something. Only thing that is going to delay it is I'm going to buy an engagement ring for my gf in the next 30-60 days. After that it's back to saving. And if I do get a car next year, it will be something cheap. Just to get by.

exactly, it's all about living within your means.

Now lets put the facts

He has a daughter which he doesn't *have to* pay child support because she owes him money -rolleyes- great care for your kid might I add.

He lives at home on the top(depending if his brother lets him take it for the night)

He has a girlfriend, who I'm sure is always a cost not to mention he has to kick out his brother to get his groove on :p

He has a very dependable car. Hell dependable more so then mine at the moment, and he wants to not only get a different car, but wants to take out the engine and Rice it out none the less all in this time frame. wow.

Then the gun... Nice home protection, Maybe thats what he brings to the family table in exchange for shelter and food... some piece of mind that there is a gun in the house with a little brother -rolleyes-

It just seems he has no set priorities, and well, the high and might attitude feeling that people with degrees make less then him is pretty annoying.

just doesn't make sense to go buying the luxuries if you don't have a place to put them.

I feel sad they are going to lock this soon since its 9 pages cause it makes me feel some much better about my life to read it and laugh laugh laugh at how LX thinks he has everything going for him. If I was 25 divorced, with a 5 year old kid, living at home in a tiny room on bunkbeds with a little brother, worrying about being able to beat 'ricers' in races, bitching about paying $100/month in rent there's no way in hell I'd come here and brag about it

That's the same boat I'm in, and for us it is a good idea to rent as we have no choice. All things equal, ownership is better. It's just we have something unequal (that is, ability to afford it or not).

Well, can't afford a home, and don't really want one.

Sure having a "house" would be great, but all the responsibilities that come with it?
I'm not a big fan of a house unless I can afford a maid and a lawncare professional.

but seriously, I just need a nice 2 BR apartment*my next move* and I'll be happy

Instead of an apartment, aim for a condo. Like a house but minus the house responsibility.

Yeah, there are MANY people out there who are better off than me. But, I've talked to MANY people throughout my jobs and including this one who are having problems with the spouse, $$ problems, and any other problem you can think of....

My only problem is I don't have a house yet. AND I think it's more of a problem to you guys than myself since I am about to buy another car over moving out. I love my parents, love the cheap rent :):D , and will love having the h/b & LX.

....Oh, and I'll be checking out a white 93 h/b in the morning which if I like I'll be paying cash :o

Bash all you want, but how many of you can actually go withdraw 3k for something you really want? ...Make that 7k, since the motor will be on order a few days after.

Make your predictions as to how many "sequels" this topic will have.

Re-thread 25: Still live at home but stuff keeps disappearing and appearing outside the front door. What can this mean? :hscratch: Discuss.

I feel sorry for LX (and thats when I think you've hit bottom when I feel sorry for you) he reminds me of someone I used to live with...that's right folks my brother. Think LX is bad? My brother was a lot worse I garuntee it. My brother had a great paying job making more that 15 dollars an hour, working 40 or more hours a week overtime almost always available with time and half. All he had to do was go to work and do his job. What was his job? Inventory of car parts for the Chrysler wherehouse out here in Ontario. How did he lose such a job? He "partied too hard". He thought he was a good DJ yet he seemed to only bring home 200 dollars from a night's playing, and never had anything to show for it but a hang over. Oh and did I mention he is divorced? with child? To whom he doesnt even pay child support? Until my dad let him move back in he was practicly homeless. He lived out of his car. So when he came home it was "yeah dad I'll help pay rent" This lasted about a month. Once he stopped paying I picked up the slack, and started paying rent myself. Against my father's wishes mind you. This made it difficult to pay off bills, and not to mention I passed on a lot of things (material things) and then times I didnt so half the time I was broke.

To make matters worse this annoyed my brother to the point of jelousy of me and the relationship I have with my father. This is what eventually got him kicked out of the house before the move. He was always looking to start a fight, and wasnt satified until someone was hurt because of his actions. My brother was a piece of work no doubt about it, but he taught me a valuable lesson. And that is not to take anything you have for granted, and most importantly never turn your back on your family over petty crap. Sure he had it rough but this is something he brought upon himself, and his destructive behavior has now resulted in him living with my mother. Looking at him I made up my mind not to turn out like he did. And so far Im doing very well. So LX can do all the flashing and bragging he wants but I hope (and I doubt it) he realizes the lifestyle he is living is pretty empty when you have to share a bunk with your brother, and own a gun for a home youll never own so long as you keep ricing out your "fly ride". All the cars, and import cars in the world cant substitute for the satifcation that comes with living on your own and taking care of yourself. Preachy? Maybe but its the truth.
