Is it worth getting a code free player with no PAL?

Without R2 and R4, I'm wondering if it's even worth getting a code free DVD player for my NTSC TV. I've heard the Sampo converts PAL but I'm guessing the quality is not that good. Plus, no one talking about this player. I'd prefer getting a converted Sony, Pioneer, etc.
So is it worth it?
Thanks,
Jeff

...well... ahh... the whole point of having a 'code-free' DVD player is that you can play DVDs from any region...
Many (most?) European DVD-fans have code-free players, so they can watch discs from Region2(Europe)/PAL, Region2(Japan)/NTSC, Region1(North America)/NTSC, Region 4(Australia)/PAL, Region 3(Hong Kong)/NTSC, and Region 0 (zero) - which, depending on where they are made, can be PAL or NTSC.
Of course, most European TVs can handle NTSC signals, whereas I understand most American TVs cannot handle PAL signals.
Anyway, take a look here:

I agree, you want to be able to display PAL as well. The conversion isn't perfect in those players (Apex/Raite/Sampo), but it's decent.
My front projector can display PAL, so I don't even have to convert it myself...
