Do I need a PAL/SECAM capitable TV to watch an region 2 disc on a multiregional DVD player? Or is having a multiregional DVD player enough? What I mean is, does a multiregional player convert a PAL movie to display on a NTSC TV automatically, no tricks?
thanks,
merci vielmaltz,

...erm... assuming you live in the USA or Canada, which is NTSC country, if you have a multi-region DVD player, theoretically you can play any DVD from another NTSC country: Region 2/Japan is NTSC; the Hong Kong DVDs in my collection are either Region 3 or Region 0 (zero), but they are all NTSC.
Region 2/Europe, however, is PAL (as is Region 4/Australia) - unless your player (e.g. the APEX) can convert a PAL signal so it will play on an NTSC display, you're out of luck - except if you own a multi-standard TV - which is common in Europe but, as I understand it, as rare as hen's teeth in North America...

You can forget about SECAM - that's the television system used in France and some other countries, but all French LaserDiscs and DVDs are PAL.
