Maybe someone can help me. I need to be able to get foreign language (specifically Region 2) DVDs to play in the US. I bought a multi-region player online but the DVD is in PAL format. I then bought a digital video converter to change the signal to NTSC. It works but it is very jumpy (like a bad feed with RealPlayer). Also, the sound is all warbled (the convertor does not handle audio). Does anyone out there have any thoughts or suggestions on this?
Thanks

Hi UpDIVX!
Too bad. A good NTSC->Pal Converter will probably cost more than your DVD-Player. You need to get a NTSC-DVD Player with RC-free! There is no other way than to change the Player.
If you want to keep the player, you need a multi-tv (or at least with Pal-playback). But that's more expansive.
Explain your problem to the supplier, that you want a different one in exchange.
Good look,

ET, as I understand UpDIVX's post, he already owns a RC-free (almost the same as multi-region) player.
The problem is in converting the signal from PAL to NTSC, not with cracking R2 code. Am I right, UpDIVX? Give us more info, i.e. model of DVD player, converter, the way you hooking it up. But the first thing to check would be to see if your multi-region DVD player is able to play PAL format (not all do).

I gather that players sold in NTSC territories will only play NTSC discs. Also, in general, players sold in PAL territories will play PAL and NTSC discs, however they don't include an option to downcovert PAL video to NTSC. However I understand that there are a few asian multi region players that do play PAL discs and ALSO offer the option to downconvert to NTSC. Apex is the brand I hear mentioned most but maybe someone else here can provide more information?

@ Chris!
In Europe, the Denon DVD 1000 has the feature to convert videosignals from NTSC->Pal and Pal->NTSC. Other Players can only convert NTSC->Pal60 or put just the regular NTSC signal out. It costs around 400,- Euro and is the low budget dvd-player with this feature.

I have a multi-region DVD player (pioneer DV-515) which has a built-in TV system selector (NTSC, PAL, and auto) at the back, and a multi-system TV. But it says at the dvd player manual that PAL -> NTSC conversion is not possible. Now Im confused. Maybe it means that I can play PAL disc but it will be outputted in PAL format (and not converted to NTSC format). Anyway, as I mentioned, I have a multi-system TV. I wanted to get some region 2 dvds (PAL) and would want to know if my set-up would encounter some problems with these discs. Just want to make sure before I complete the purchase. Thanks

@ Bargainhunter!
Since you have a multi-tv you need not to worry. It will play any signal it receive's. Your Pioneer-player can't convert from Pal->NTSC so it will show the original Pal signal. This means you need a Pal-TV or a multi-tv. Also, your player is RC-free. You can get RC-2 dvd's and watch them.
