Ok, i read some of the previous posts and would like a little clarification on the below

1) Does NTSC or PAL encoding on a DVD matter if i am playing it back on a computer (i.e. dvd-rom drive)?

2) Can i use my amazon.com (US) gift certificates at amazon.co.uk?

Thanks.

1) No, however with most Apple Mac drives you have a limited number of times when you can switch over the region so be careful it doesn’t "stick" in region two if you’re going to be viewing primarily region one discs. On the other hand you may have a PC and I don’t know anything about them as they are indeed the work of the Devil

2) I don’t believe so, although I wouldn’t like to say positively - Maybe someone can confirm for sure. I know the european branch of express used to convert US to UK over, don’t know if they still do or not though.

No, the monitor doesn't care whether its NTSC or PAL.

You only have to worry about that on a T.V.

Like Jon said though, make sure you don't change the region to many times and lock the player.

The monitor may not care about PAL/NTSC, but the player software sure does.

For instance, PowerDVD and WinDVD both play any region disc initially, but become region-locked after playing a specific number of discs from a region.

But you can get patches for players to make them "region-free" which will allow them to play all regions. They're just not official patches.
