This movie has to be the biggest crock of **** I have ever watched!
By Foolishly listening to the pre-release region 2 hype, I was expecting a cracking Sci-Fi, rivalling the Matrix for entertainment, but boy was I disappointed!
To even mention this film in the same breath as the awesome Matrix is an injustice!

Maybe I missed something, but did anyone actually enjoy this shambles?

I liked it - it's a completely different sort of film to the matrix but it's still a good film. But it's good in a different way.

Maybe the reason I disliked it so much is because I heard so many comparisons such as "its better than the Matrix" and so on, and then I expected it to be both similar in terms of the story, and as good....As usual, if you listen to the hype, you will ultimately be dissapointed....e.g. Sixth Sense....
On the other hand, film that no-one has ever heard of, often tends to be the best e.g. Arlington Road -WHAT A FILM

One good thing about eXistenZ is the Dreamcast features - a nice and original touch don't you think?

I enjoyed eXistenZ... but then I also enjoyed cronenbergs other films.

(myself I wouldn't compare ExistenZ and the Matrix to any great extent, beyond the fact that they both deal with issues of unreality and reality - to do so reflects badly on eXistenZ. Sure, the Matrix is a great action flick from the Hong Kong school of action films, but it hardly leverages much grey matter

Personally I thought eXistenZ was very average. I don't think what-her-name Leigh can act all that well. Mr C has FAR too much interest in KY and blood covered gooey fleshy things. And I compared it to the Game, where Michael Douglas has all this 'what is going on' stuff happening. And found it lacking. I'm really glad I didn't go to the cinema to see this movie.

Picked up the Canadian DVD off ebay and watched it last night. All in all I thought it was a pretty good, thought provoking movie between reality and fantasy.
The movie did have that international feel to it as it wasn't filled with CGI special effects but relied more on makeup and costumes to get the feeling across. The movie reminded me of a weird dream that someone wrote a script out of.

I liked it too. I'm probably going to pick up the R1 from DDD for $6.30 this Friday.

The Canadian special edition kicks ass. Far superior to the US version.
