MINDGAME Region 4-Disc 2 dvd not readable?
Last July I purchased the Madman.com release of Region 4 dvd of the Anime classic MINDGAME. At the time I got this set through an Ebay seller. Bottom line, Disc 2 of the extras doesn't play on two of my all-region players. (Disc 1 plays fine). The Ebay seller forwarded me a second disc but the same issue arises. Flash forward to last week. I figured I'd contact Madman.com directly in Australia about this, they said unless I purchase it directly from their catalogue on-line they couldn't help me. So...I ordered yet another set from them (at a nifty price) and guess what? The same issue, Disc 1 fine, Disc 2 (extras) won't be read by either of my players.
This has to be the pressing issue of those second discs right? I've now written to Madman again and I hope that rather than just send me another disc they'll test any new dvds they ship out. Anyone else own this dvd and if so, have they had similiar issues?

TheDoug, what do you need the extras so bad for? It's one of my favorite movies too, but jeez, I wouldn't be spending over 60 bucks for them!

suggest asking in mania anime forums http://www.mania.com/aodvb/
I've not heard of the issue, but I'd keep trying the disc in more players rather than buying more disc for the sane players you've already tried.

You know what, I had this same damn problem! It seems the company has pressed their second disc like crap. You can sort of see they are pressed bad if you look on the underside! I wish I knew the correct term for it, but it looks like a discolored blob within the plastic. Often when I see this, it means the DVD (or CD) will not work in low end or slow speed players, be unpredictable on where it will mess up or not, or function differently on multiple players.
I've gone through three second discs, until I finally found one that played all of the special features EXCEPT the trailers. The first time I needed a replacement, the Australian DVD company I bought it from sent me a new one free of charge, and same problem, half of the special features wouldn't work.
For the third disc, I was able to bug Madman enough through e-mail until they agreed to send me a new one, but I had to pay to ship one of my second discs to Australia. So THEY WILL do it, and they should. You should let them know as well that many people are reporting defective second discs, not just you. Between us, that's five, who knows how many other people are having problems?
And I've tried these on three different all region options. The one I settled on plays in my usual player.
You know, I wouldn't have even been so angry about all of this because I do have that expensive ass Perfect Japanese Box Set of the movie with the storyboard and image books, 2 soundtrack discs, 4 DVDs and etc. but the Japanese version only has the special features in Japanese. So the Australian version is the only official English source of translation.
This pisses me off all over again, heh.
