What's the DVD scene like in Argentina?
Does anyone know of any interesting DVDs (preferably English subbed) that are available in Argentina, or of any shops worth checking out in Buenos Aires? I have a friend who's going to be there next week.

I have not visited Argentina but have wandered through Argentinean cinema on DVD quite a bit and the good news is that a very big portion of these discs are English subbed. Most of them are also of very good quality. Some titles to consider:
1. Un ano sin amor (also available in the UK)
2. Encarnacion (also from Berneri)
3. La Puta y la Balena (loved this film and reviewed it for TALK)
Also, if your friend could get this 3DVD set (Puenzo's La Historia Official included) it would be great. I could not order it:

El Faro (with Ricardo Darin from El Aura) is not bad either.
Also, if your friend is willing to pick two copies of Bigas Luna's La Amante de Goya - Volaverunt, I would gladly pay to have one. The Spanish release is long gone, OOP.
Argentina has a very, very good DVD market, English-friendly, if you are interested in local cinema.

La Antena (2007) - recommended
La Senal (2007) - didn't really care for the movie
El Nino De Barro (2007) - TV-movie type cinematography (if I remember right), but still a a decent mystery
Cronica De Una Fuga (2006) - good prison-type movie
El Custodio (2006) - haven't watched it yet
