I've read something about the next Samsung (2550) that could be easily hacked, it was a rumour.

Tutut, do you have a link for that and do you know if it's for DVDs or Blu-rays?

Can someone confirm this?

I don't remember where I read this, I just remember Samsung confirmed it could be multiregion with a software modification for DVD and it was said maybe it could be the same for BD.

Very sad news indeed.

In France, Carlotta announced their titles will be region region locked, bad news for Salo and The Trilogy of Life (Decameron, Canterbury Tales, Arabian Nights)
from Pasolini, they planned for 2009 on BR.

I just hope the promised 2009 Criterion editions of the Trilogy will get the standard and bluray release as well, thus eliminating the need to get the French import.

Looks light years better than the Criterion. I'm happy with the DVD though.

Another review on the BFI Blu-Ray:

And one on the standard-def UK set:

the booklet for the standard dvd BFI reissue, states that the missing scene from the region 1 release is of lesser quality but still intact.

It is actually in a remarkably good condition. The color-scheme is slightly faded but the footage is indeed intact.

I finished watching the standard BFI edition this morning and even upconverted to 1080i this new transfer is amazing - it's so clean and unblemished. I was toggling between this and the Criterion version and it was interesting to note that translations in subtitled form differ alot - the missing 'poem' scene is pretty well integrated, with the colours/sharpness only slightly getting darker, more saturated.

I believe BFI are also doing an utterly impressive job with the booklets for these releases. On the one I received for Red Desert I honestly believe that the booklet is as important as the presentation. The same goes for Salo,

Re: Salo (br)

Did anyone pick up the BD release?

I finally went Region-Free on BD's and was wondering if the BFI BD release was worth picking up if I have the Criterion DVD.
