DVD's in Israel

I am going to Israel on May 20th and was wondering if anyone knew of anything movie related that I could pick up. I'm mostly interested in horror movies, but am open to suggestions. I've never been there before and don't really know what to expect. Thanks!

I've been to Israel, went for a 19 day trip/vacation. I didn't watch any movies. I can however tell you that ordering three medium Pizza's, 2 wings, and a couple two litre's pf coke from Dominoes will cost you over $100.00

Just about shit my pants!

Don't know what to tell you about any DVD suggestions, but whatever you buy...if you are on the street or in a market haggle with the price no matter what.

No, it was about 7 years ago. Anything "American" is not cheap.

No problem. It was a crazy trip. I enjoyed it and hated it at the same time. Seeing military with sub machine guns everywhere took a little getting used to.
People were very rude/leary for the most part. Food was either great, or inedible in my opinion, nothing I found in between so to speak. Some of the worst looking street food for a couple of bucks was better than some of the fine dining places we went to.

I'm not Jewish, so I didn't get the whole Kosher/can't mix certain foods together thing. Eat lots of Hummus, Falaffel, and the fish there was excellent. DON'T ASK FOR BACON!!!

We went to the dead sea, that was great, absolutely beautiful out in the middle of the desert. (And did all of the tourist stuff) We stayed in Jeruselem, Tel Aviv, and a resort town called Tiberius. Tiberius was on the sea of Galilea, we went sailing and it was peacefull and beautiful as well. If you can go to Massadah (Spelling??) go there, it was amazing. BTW, once you are by the Dead Sea and Massadah, you are only about 1-1/2 hours away from Cairo Egypt.

Have a good time, hope you enjoy it.

Hi JWAR - If you'll visit Tel Aviv you must go to The Third-Ear dvd store (it's on 48 King George street, you can't miss it). It's heaven for film buffs, there are imports from all over the world plus huge collection of Israeli movies (not many horror Israeli were made, if any, you can try Frozen days by Dany Lerner - which is available with English subtitles) - you can find the critically acclaimed The Band's Visit, Beufort (best director at Berlin), My father my Lord, Year Zero, Gift from Above (from the director of Late Wedding) and many others - all with English subtitles. If you don't want to pay 100$ for 3 Pizzas, wings and coke - don't eat at Dominoss, I'm sure you'll find much better and cheaper places to eat... enjoy!

Eat all the Shawarma you can find, and ask for chips (french fries) in your Shawarma. I'm going back to Israel for my 4th time this summer. The greatest place on earth

That is it on the head. I could not remember the name of this street "sandwich". It is awesome and very cheap.

JWAR, here's another Israeli film to consider picking up - Turn Left at The End of the World. I just ordered it - it looks good:
http://www.israel-music.com/various/...d_world_movie/

The Israeli DVD seems better than the NTSC Region 1 DVD. The Israeli is anamorphic, DTS, and english subtitles..

JWAR -when in Tel Aviv , you can buy at the Third-Ear the movie Made in Israel (http://www.third-ear.com/p_prod.aspx?id=34674), the movie was directed in 2001 by Ari Folman, who also directed Waltz with Bashir - which received great reviews yesterday at Cannes. Here's the amazing trailer for Waltz with Bashir:

In Israel as we speak. Unfortunately I was not able to stop by Third-Ear yet. Does anyone know about any dvd places around or outside of the old city. Everything here seems to be bootlegs. My brother-in-law is going to take me to Blockbuster tomorrow, but other than that he doesn't know where to buy stuff because most people here I guess download movies. Any suggestions would be helpful. Oh and if you know what part of Israel it is in that would be great! I have a map of Israel, but there are certain areas it is not safe to travel without a vehicle. So I haven't got to explore much. Beautiful country so far though!!!!!!

Whatever they are called they are nowhere near Gaza. I think you might be thinking of Jordan or somewhere else. Gaza is restricted area that no one is allowed to enter or leave. My mother-in-law is taking me shopping today, so I will find out for sure where these places are! Thanks

Concerning that Transformers DVD, I wonder how Optimus Prime sounds dubbed into Hebrew...
