Nelly et M Arnaud: UK vs. French version?

I need to replace my R1 copy of Nelly et M Arnaud, as when I play it through the HDTV, the subtitles are lost. This is apparently a common issue with this disc.

Awhile ago, I asked about replacing it, and the French disc was recommended by Pro-B. However, I notice there is also a U.K. release, by Pathe.

Is this the same release as the 2005 French reissue?

I ask because the U.K. version is pretty cheap at amazon.uk, but the one at amazon.fr would cost about twice as much.

Anybody know the story on these two versions?

Thanks,

Ron

Stay away from it. If I recall correctly it is not in the proper aspect ratio, it is 4:3 only. This being said there are only a few titles from Pathe's budget line of world films they released in Europe under Fox and their distro umbrella that are worth owning (In All Innocence is one of them). The majority of the discs however are exactly that: budget product -- lack of advanced 5.1 mixes, quite a few non-anamorphic treatments, absolutely no extras but chapters on the majority of them.

As I said before, pay a little more but get the best version and enjoy the film.

Edit:

If you think that I am making it all up here's your proof (look bottom, left corner where it is indicated 1.33:1 and then 2.0 sound mix...). A total waste. If you need a list with what is worth owning from the UK Pathe-World line let me know but avoid this disaster....there are better titles here to own.

I took up pro-b's suggestion a while back. The french disc is vastly superior to the UK one.

I don't think you're making it up--I just don't remember discussing the U.K. release the last time I asked about this film, and when I searched for the old thread, I didn't see anything about it.

But I'm certainly not interested in a pan and scan version of this film. Why do companies even bother to release something if they're going to do such a crappy job?

Frankly I have no idea. Especially when a few of the Pathe UK discs are quite good, yet, the rest are utterly disappointing. Whatever the reason is I don't believe they sold too many of them.

I have the R1, and am perfectly happy with it.

And I'm the type of person who complains a lot about bad transfers . . .

Correct. And the R1 US release has a correct color scheme. Great disc. Highly recommended.

There are/will be Italian versions, too:

Nellly et Mr Arnaud: http://www.internetbookshop.it/dvd/8...ly-arnaud.html

Un coeur en hiver: http://www.internetbookshop.it/dvd/8...e-inverno.html

These are a bit better for me, since they are Region 2.
