Need help finding best versions of pre-1940 Hitchcock, any region...

I'm a huge fan of the director. I have nice versions of everything he made after 1940, but only public domain releases for everything that came before it, which is pretty much all that's available in R1, with the exception of this set: http://www.amazon.com/Alfred-Hitchco...501138&sr=1-15 but I don't actually own it yet.

So the main reason for this post is because I have begun to look outside R1 for Hitchcock DVD's, but seem to be finding only PD. I have the PD set from Laserlight that collects almost all his films from 1927-1940, but the quality is generally pretty terrible. And there's so much crap out there in virtually every region, it's hard to make an informed decision.

Is anyone aware of any remastered editions of early Hitchcock films in other regions? Or are the PD releases all that's available?

Last year, I completed my Hitchcock collection using information I got here: http://www.hitchcockwiki.com/hitchcock/wiki/Main_Page

There are a bunch of great releases from Germany and France.

Happy hunting!

I've used that site as well. It is very informative and an awesome tool to use for tracking down the best releases of the early Hitchcock films.

Hmmm... I never thought to try Wikipedia. It never seemed very reliable. But there's a lot of information there. Thanks for the link.

Actually, it's not Wikipedia. It's a totally different site that uses the "wiki" format. (Wikipedia just happens to the most famous of all the wikis.) The Wikipedia entry for Hitchcock is here.
