Bruno Dumont's Flanders
I see that Flanders has been released in Thailand on DVD. (Click here for details.) Does anyone know anything about this release? Are the sub-titles any good? And the picture and sound quality? Is it cut?
Thanks in advance.

I do not have any info on this disc but find it very strange that from all places Thailand would have Flanders' world premiere. This very much looks like those "official" early Russian releases that have been flooding the markets as of late.
This being said Flanders is rumored for an early July release in France.

Well, as far as I know, Thailand had the world premiere of Lucas Belvaux's The Right of the Weakest, so perhaps it's not all that strange. And the quality of that disc was quite good. Well, the sound's a bit tinny, but it's acceptable otherwise (to these untrained eyes).

I've been after this film for ages so might go for this.
As for the Thai release they've had quite a few early releases and I'd say it's just down to rights issues for films with mostly non-American/European funding.

As I seemed to keep on missing this film whenever/wherever it was playing I finally bought the Thai disc and watched it on Saturday. Was quite impressed with the pic and sound, and I think anyone that's liked (or at least admired, which is probably a more appropriate word) Dumont's previous efforts will get on just fine with this. The Thai disc has the option of Thai or French audio and optional Thai or English subs. The English subs basically seem OK - as many of you familiar with Dumont will know, his films aren't exactly dialogue-packed. No extras except for a trailer & photo gallery.

The picture quality seemed to be of a relatively high standard, but I didn't think the French 5.1 track was particularly good -- it frequently dipped in and out of what sounded to me like an echo. I flicked over to the Thai track a couple of times and it didn't seem to suffer from this problem. I'm by no means an expert, but, if you're really fussy about this sort of detail, I would recommend holding out for the inevitable French release, which will hopefully come equipped with English subs. Then again, this Thai release is pretty inexpensive.
