While most of these turned out fairly good (haven't watched them all yet), I've been really disappointed with some of them. I tried to hit up dvdcompare between trips out, but it was hard to figure out some of them (and due to location I didn't want to hit some stores more than once for time reasons) -- plenty of dvds out there not listed yet. The "Fist of Legend" may be a bootleg - has slipcase and nice cover, but back cover of DVD has description in Chinese and French - as well as the French and English dubs. It's also distro'd by the same folks who put out the OUATIC trilogy that I picked up (3 separate discs packaged together) - which does look a lot more professional from the outside. It may be a more recent release by the same Chinese company but I'm not sure.

Really killed me that almost every store had Election II, but I couldn't find a DVD of Election anywhere. Everything I found was sealed and the employees at several different stores all claimed no bootlegs - especially with the everpresent Singapore rating system and censor stickers, but who knows.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Retribution (R3 HK) and Loft (R3 Malaysia :fc:) -- missed out on the $5-off deal from YesAsia, but I literally just found out that English-subbed versions of these were available. Kind of wary about that disc for Loft, but we'll see...

the LOFT disc is crap : pan and scan, poor pic quality. generally, there's always word on these out there quite quickly, so always worth checking the most likely places for discussion on these. i've seen caps of the LOFT disc posted, several days ago.

Argh, that sucks. Oh all the times for Yesasia's servers to be busy, too! I can't get in a cancel request... :(

First Loft and now this: just found out that the Retribution disc does not have subtitles, despite what Yesasia lists. Very disappointing! The wait continues for English-friendly versions of these two. :grumble:

No, I stand corrected. There was some confusion elsewhere about this disc, and it does apparently have subs.

you probably got confused over the japanese and HK issues - both appeared within a couple of days, the R2 J without subs, the R3 HK with subs - i ordered mine from dddhouse.com; i use yesasia for orders over £18 only, usually japanese discs. by the way, yesasia is also a little slow on listings, so dddhouse.com asiandvdguide.com are good ways of confirming R3 HK specs, and it's always worth remembering it's unsubbed R3 HKs that are a rare exception...

The R2 Japan and R3 HK discs were indeed mixed up. I ended up getting the R3 from DDDHouse (cheaper than Yesasia) and picked up the R3 LE of Sunshine while I was there. :) Haven't used DDD in a few years, but I was always happy with them in the past and I'll probably try to give them more business in the future.
