Kirikou And The Wild Beasts Dvd
According to Amazon Canada, there will be an English version of KIRIKOU AND THE WILD BEASTS being released on November 14th. It's up for pre-order at this amazon link:
http://www.amazon.ca/Kirikou-Et-Les-...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd
Can anyone confirm this for sure that the DVD will have an English language, or any other of the DVD specs such as anamorphic video??? The company releasing the DVD is called Alliance (Universal) and I couldn't find any information about the site or this DVD online. Can anyone help? Todd at Twitch? Pro-Bass?

saw this yesterday at the New Film from France series at the AFI - Silver Theatre and have to say it's the best animated film I saw this year. The animation and background artwork are simply beautiful and the four stories engaging. The print btw was subtitled and unfortunately almost completely disappeared whenever the lower portion of the screen became the white of the grandfather's robe.

I believe the first film was released by New Yorker Home Video - I have no idea if they are in the cards for domestic release or not, I would assume no
if the Canadian edition is botched, I hope BFI (UK) might release this.

The only version of the first movie that I know of and own is the region 1 non-anamorphic letterboxed DVD. I don't think Australia, Canada or UK have Kirikou and the Sorceress on DVD with english audio/subtitles.

Kirikou and the Sorceress - BFI (UK) Edition
which incidently sounds cropped or non-anamorphic, BFI denotes 4X3 - ??

Ooooh ... Alliance doesn't do a lot of releases independent of the US, so my guess is that they're actually distributing this for some other company, probably Seville who I know have the Quebec rights. Seville DVD releases are generally quite good. Either way, it'll be a damn sight better than the Facets release of the first one, and I'm off to order now ...

On a related note, Ocelot's "Azur & Asmar" was released in French cinemas last week. Obviously no word of a DVD as yet, but another one of the director's titles to look out for in months to come...

NOTE: AMAZON JUST CHANGED THE LANGUAGE OF ENGLISH TO FRENCH!!! CANCEL ORDER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!! (Twitch?).
Im glad I checked the amazon listing, because they sure as hell didn't tell me that they changed the language to french. So, now it's unknown if the Canadian dvd of KIRIKOU AND THE WILD BEASTS will have an English audio or English subtitles track?????

Toddly6666;
It's been pretty hard to find this thing. I've managed to find one store that has it (or so I've been told they got 2 copies) but it's a bit of a ways from my house. I won't be able to get there for a day or two, and they couldn't confirm the English sub's at the time because the girl said she was too busy. Outside of that it's nowhere to be found which makes me wonder if it's lacking English sub's. I know a few guys who do small dist. to local mom and pop shops/rental spots and the distribution information only says "French" as the language. Then again, when Saint Matryes Des Damnes came out it was just as hard to locate and it had English sub's. I don't know what else to tell you right now. Maybe someone like Twitch will get it and let us know. I'll still try to find it, if now I might be in that rental store area on the weekend.

NTSC Region 1 DVD of KIRIKOU AND THE WILD BEAST is coming out next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are the DVD specs per Barnes and Noble website. That sucks that it may not be anamorphic, but to get this in English is worth it:
Region Code: 1
Aspect Ratio: Theatre Wide-Screen (1.85.1)
Presentation: Letterbox
Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
Language: Français
Subtitles: English

I got the DVD and I can confirm the DVD specs:
Anamorphic, DD 5.1 or Stereo 2.0 French.
The video and audio quality is just as good as the French PAL release. And the English subtitles are removable and of excellent quality as well.

DMKB,
that's what I feared once I saw that KINO logo on this dvd cover, but surprisingly, the video quality is very good, far from what's usually expected from a KINO DVD....

FLIXTIME,
unfortunately, they had to release PRINCES AND PRINCESSES in Full-screen, instead of anamorphic widescreen like on the French PAL dvd. But I guess better than nothing for the NTSC Region 1 people...

Hey toddly, I appreciate your calling to my attention the change in aspect ratio. This title is lower priority for me so I didn't fully research it prior to posting - and fortunately haven't purchased the R1 yet...which now seems a good thing. I just did some checking and it looks like the one review at digitallyobsessed is in error as they claim that 1:33:1 is the original aspect ratio. Also looks like there was a Korean release but also full-frame. But as you mentioned the French disc is indeed listed at 1.66:1 and anamorphic...certainly seems the best way to go.
