ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS up for pre-order!!!!

The newly animated French film, ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS, is up for sale at various french dvd sites, such as Amazon France. The dvd is going to be released on October 25.

ENGLISH DD 5.1 or FRENCH DD 5.1!
ANAMORPHIC VIDEO!
ENGLISH SUBTITLES!

That's the type of specs I like seeing on French DVDs, good job! Viva France!

There's a positive DVD review at:

Does anyone know if the Russian DVD is actually anamorphic video?

I got my ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS DVD from Amazon France today. Amazon France is faster than Amazon USA/Canada/UK for some odd reason. That's nice of the company to send me the DVD before the release date so that it gets to my mail box a day after the release date - what a great business Amazon is.

The DVD is pretty nice. It comes with a little booklet in french about the making of the movie, with a lot of nice pictures. The anamorphic video and DD 5.1 audio is excellent. Eventhough the English dub was good (especially with famous actors doing the voices), the French actors sound better and fit the characters better. It's certainly not like the excellent English dubbing of the Miyazaki films released on USA DVD. There's a bunch of the usual extras - but nothing phenomonal. The only thing interesting was the footage of the Asterix authors/artists.

The film, which is a tiny bit over an hour, feels long enough. It's a fair Asterix representation on film. It's not bad, it's just a little generic and doesn't have enough of the Asterix humor in the film. The romance that was added into the movie, which was not part of the original book, actually was the best factor in this animated version.

This is how I would rate the current animated/live action Asterix films that I've seen so far:

ASTERIX AND OBELIX: MISSION KLEOPATRA (live action): 10 out of 10
ASTERIX IN ENGLAND (animated): 8 out of 10
ASTERIX AND THE VIKINGS (animated): 7 out of 10
ASTERIX AND OBELIX VS. CAESAR (live action): 6 out of 10
ASTERIX AND CLEOPATRA (animated): 5 out of 10
ASTERIX THE GAUL (animated): 5 out of 10
