Question About PAL DVDs

I was looking at a DVD that is "(Region All and PAL Format)" and I do not know if it would work on my system or not.

I have a Cyberhome CH300 which is supposed to be, region free do-able, but my TV is just a regular American TV. If I could get the disc to play, would it be viewable on my TV (in decent quality)?

We also have a Philips dvd player in the livingroom... It is a model 642/37 manufactured July 04. I finally found a model number on the back of the player. This is good news, right?

The Cyberhome must be set to NTSC-output (region-all) which will provide your TV with the proper signal.

Voila...

If the DVD is region all or 0, the Philips should play it without having to do anything at all.

...and more!

Setting up the Cyberhome at NTSC-output and "Region-ALL" will allow you to play any dvd, from any region 1-5, regardless of the encoding (PAL or NTSC), which will allow your "American TV" () to handle it without any hassle. A quick search will provide you with the needed information as to how to properly set up your player.

The Phillips 642 can easily made region-free and also does PAL-NTSC conversion. I bought one for my parents who now live in Mexico as they were having problems playing the local R4 DVDs but still wanted to play all their R1 dvs. I tested it out for them and was able to play R2 PAL, R2 NTSC, R3, R4 in addition to R1s.

A little late to the show, but yes on both players. I've owned both and each of them were capable of playing R2 PAL, R2, R3 and R4 disks. I didn't keep them very long so I couldn't respond to quality of playback however ...
