I notice there's a Taiwan edition too, and I'm wondering if it's significantly different.
For that matter, what's the possibility for an R1 DVD coming out?

The Taiwan release doesn't seem to have English subtitles. I've pre-ordered the Hong Kong release. I haven't kept an eye out for any news of a R1 release (so it might or might not have been announced). For the price (and to get it sooner rather than later), the Hong Kong release is fine enough for me.

Don't buy this movie - it sucks and is boring. It has good potential with some great sets and special effects, but it's not enough. It's really a chore to watch this movie. There is nothing wrong with the style, it's just that it is boring and has lousy story. The HK DVD is okay, it has fair Anamorphic video quality and better sound options with DD 5.1 and DTS and English subtitles.

Toddly6666 - thanks for the feedback, but I think I still need to see this one for myself (I've heard so many mixed reactions to the movie at this point that it all just makes me that much more curious.) Anyway, would you possibly be interested in selling or trading it?

This movie's great. A total laugh. I'm not sure how anyone couldn't love a movie like this.

I've got the Mei Ah release. It's anamorphic, all-region NTSC with DTS and it has english subs (extra features have no english subs though). Total cost was about $14 USdollars. Bought mine from Buyoyo.com

BTW, I think the title "Tanuki-Goten" translates to "Raccoon Palace". Princess Raccoon is the name of Zhang Ziyi's character.

The picture quality of the HK-DVD isn't that good. I've made a comparison with the Japanese DVD.
