To answer your question, the dvds from netflix and amazon.com are Region 1 or sometimes Region 0 NTSC.
Regarding Region 4, for me you would need to be more clear if you are referring to Region 4 PAL (Australia) or Region 4 NTSC (Brazil).

these websites state the regions where the dvds are from.most of the dvds being sold in these websites are region 1s and if they are not region 1s, these websites will tell you so. they even tell you if they are pal or ntsc, just look carefully at the techs and specs.most region 4 dvds canbe found at websites coming from that region but netflix also sells region 4 dvds, such as the godzilla 1954 original uncut japanese version

Thanks for your information. I am in New Zealand and I see many Documentaries and Art type films at the likes of Netflix which are not listed as Region 4, is there a place where I can obtain these in Region 4 PAL format.
Thanks

Hi Bill
Thanks again for your help.Unfortunately the sites you suggested were of no help. I need to purchase as I'm endeavouring to establish a specialized rental service in my region. Well I'll keep hunting, many thanks again.
Mark
Ps. Any suggestions to help me in my pursuit would be most welcome. Sourcing the DVD's is my main problem. (any idea where Netflix's etc. get their stock ?)

Netflix gets most of their movies directly from the distributors for far below wholesale price, in exchange for profit-sharing agreements with the major Hollywood studios. IIRC, Blockbuster operates the same way.
