In the Mountains of Taihang?

Has anyone watched this movie? It seems interesting. And the new Mei Ah DVd is not expensive too (although it looks plain barebone indeed)

Just to clarify the title for others who might not be familiar with it, I believe the more accurate title is "On the Mountain of Tai Hang" (aka Tai Hang Shan Shang).

It is a relatively newly released Mandarin-language war movie (Chinese vs. Japanese during the late 1930's). I picked up the Hong Kong DVD release as well but have not watched it yet. There was initially a mainland DVD release which was followed by a mainland DVD release of an extended (by approx. 30 minutes) version of the film. The Hong Kong DVD release is the shorter theatrical cut. For those interested, you can find all the releases at yesasia, just search "On the Mountain of Tai Hang". I hope to get to my copy within the next 10 days or so; I'll pop back in here after I've watched it.

Do not buy this DVD - it is an unwatchable movie! I got the anamorphic DTS version. The quality of the DVD is great, but the movie is awful. I read poor reviews that it was due to being a propaganda movie, but for me, the film has no story, which totally makes the film non-entertaining. I couldn't even finish the movie it was so bad. Basically, the movie plays like a awful video game - We will attack here, then we will attack here, and so on. There is no story. I love action movies, but it's really impossible to watch an action/war movie literally without a story. It's like a war strategy movie that is only about strategy and each moves by the military. This is the flow of the movie: "we will attack here. Action scene. We will counterattack here. Action scene. We will attack here...and so on, with no story or development of any characters. It's unique in that sense that I have never seen a movie like that, but it doesn't make it good. Totally boring. There is some good effects in it, such as the airplanes, but this movie is god-awful. The trailer, which is awesome, suckered me into buying this DVD
