Wolf Creek Preorder for 1/16/2006

Diabolikdvd.com has Wolf Creek up for preorder. It's a bit pricey -- is this worth a blind buy? 2-disc set.

Details here:

Also available from Xploited Cinema for less--depending on postage, of course.

I got rec'd my R2 copy of Wolf Creek about $20 shipped during a Benson's World sale. I've had a chance to view all the extras and the movie with the exception of listening to the commentary track.

I liked the movie a lot, so I won't comment on the film...you can visit the movie talk forum for a couple of threads discussing the movie or go to Rotten Tomatoes website for a compilation of all of the reviews.

As far as the sound and PQ of this dvd it is top notch. Shot in HD, it shows in the detail throughout the film, including the night scenes. I was very impressed by the sharpness and color saturation.....natural skin tones and spot on color. As far as the extras....well nothing spectacular here. I did enjoy the appox 50+ min doc on the making of the film. One area that was really interesting was the photography and the use of HD cameras....along with the color techs. for the film...they would show a before and after on several scenes...it made me appreciate the dvd transfer even more. No extras stand out: three deleted scenes and a 20 min interview with John Jarratt , who plays Mick the killer in the film. Some of the comments were interesting, but overall pretty pedestrian stuff. Overall, I'd give the extra's a "C". Transfer an A- (slight down grade for the limited use of the rear surrounds in the soundtrack.)

Note that the R2 Optimum DVD has no subs whatsoever. Could be an issue for the Aussie accent challenged.

I didn't find the accents hard to understand at all. If there is an uncut version vs the theatrical....it didn't mention it on the box or specs. I have not heard of another version available.

I just saw where the Weinsteins are releasing an "unrated" cut in addition to the US theatrical. I don't know if US theatrical differed from Australia or UK theatrical or how many versions of the film there are.

IMDB only lists one running time and it's 99 min. I assume every country got the same theatrical version.

That's strange. I saw the movie in a US theater, and I bought the UK DVD. I didn't notice a difference in the finger cutting scene. But, if that's the only thing making the Weinstein's DVD uncut, then I guess I don't need it. Whew! I thought I was gonna have to buy it again. Actually, I wish they would incorporate the deleted scene where the girl falls into the well back into the movie. Don't know why they cut it out...it was good.

The film was cut by a matter of frames, not seconds or minutes.
