The DVD-Screener I watched was 2.35. Was it shown in 1.85 theatrically?

It was a "DVD-Screener" that people interested in this film were able to obtain around November last year. Images from the Korean(?) DVD that I've seen looked cropped on the sides compared to the 2.35 version I saw. How was this shown theatrically?

I don't know. It hasn't even been released theatrically in the US yet. I saw it on a "screener" as well. It was 16:9 and didn't look particularly cropped.

That price is even worse than at yesasia. Koreandvds has a better price but they charge more for shipping on US orders.

Looks like the prices at most korean retailers are pretty steep (in the 25-30 range). I ordered it regardless, and the dvd shipped yesturday. I'll sure to make a follow-up post after I make it through the disc.

It looks like the R3 Kor version is the way to go. It looks like the R2 HKL version is going to be retitled but hopefully not recut( or rescored like Ong Bak).

Yup, got mine from DVDsFromKorea.com

2 Disc in normal amaray, has a postcard and slipcase

Can confirm the first disc is subtitled in English, but the extras (as suspected) are only subtitled in Korean

Will you be watching the UK theatrical release on July 28th? If you do let us know if it's a different cut. Thanks. I'm going to the UK at the end of August so I will probably miss it.

Just got mine the other day. It's a pretty decent dvd. The packaging is just the standard amaray case like previously stated.....it does have a decent looking slip-cover, but the packaging isn't up to par with other korean dvds.

The dvd does have pretty good english sub-titles. The picture quality isn't reference quality, but its above average. Some the of the scenes look a little soft, but overall it's serviceable. The DD 5.1 track is also pretty decent. There is some good bass, and the surrounds are used fairly well. My only complaint around the sound, is the odd "volume spikes". Most of the fight sound f/x are great, but every now and then one of them will spike louder than the others. It's not a huge volume increase, but it can be hard on the ears - especially if you crank our sounds system like myself. You may want to set the volume a decibal or two lower than you normally would to accomodate.

Overall I didn't enjoy the movie as much as Ong Bak, but its still a rock solid film for Tony Jaa. It's a must see for martial arts fans.

Does anyone have an active link for the R3 Korean?

Just got back from "The Protector" and I'm anxious to see the original cut. I've checked my usual sources for imports but it doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere.

HKFlix has a few different versions, but each is listed with an "Urgent Note" - "Due to Weinstein Company copyrights, we are unable to ship this DVD to Australia / Bahamas / Bermuda / Canada / Denmark / Finland / New Zealand / Norway / South Africa / Sweden / U.S.A. shipping addresses. If you live there and order this DVD, it will be automatically cancelled without further notice."
