DVD Video - Region Issues

Hello,

I'm new here and also new to some issues relating to DVDs. My experience goes as far as transfering my Handycam videos to DVDs.

I have a few DVDs that I brought back from Europe (region 2) that I'd like to view on my TV with the DVD player that is hooked up to it.

At the moment, I can view them on my computer, but I'd prefer watching them on my larger TV instead.

Is there any software that'll convert and copy/burn a DVD in "region free" mode?

I have downloaded AnyDVD, Clone DVD and Shrink DVD with no luck obtaining results. One of the packages let me make a copy and I was able to select "region free", but when I inserted it into my DVD player for my TV, it still came up with "area limitations".

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Get a region free DVD player, or see if your current DVD player can be made region free. Search at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks for your specific model.

I considered doing that before the recent purchase of my DVD player. I'll see if it can be made region free.

But that still won't take care of some other issues. I'd like to make a copy of "Over Canada" (a well made video showing the various areas of this country) for a friend in Italy.

BTW, according to the site you listed, there are no hacks for my Sony DVP-NS50P.

Read and understand...I wasn't making a copy of anything....I have the ORIGINALS.

Is it my fault Euro movies aren't available here? Maybe the bozzos should make it region free so that I can watch it here on my TV! If business here is too dumb to make it available, then tough for them! Or maybe Hollywood should produce more movies worth watching. As it stands now, very little of qulaity comes from there. Most is aimed at the mindless masses.

Yes, please delete my membership. This place is way tooooo commercial for my liking and above all, has too much of a dictatorship mentality. But just for that, I will make copies and pass them around!

1. You need to understand that whether you own the disc or not, it is still illegal to make a copy of it. No upstanding forum is going to let its members discuss illegal activities.

2. Even if you made copies, you'll still have PAL/NTSC issues. Computers can do PAL-to-NTSC without a problem, but your TV will not. You should purchase a DVD player that can do PAL-to-NTSC and easily be made region free (Philips DVP-642).

2.a. I'd be careful about playing multi-region discs on your PC, unless your drive is unlocked (possible, but not usually the case). You are allowed something like 5 region changes and then the region change becomes permenant.

In the other locked thread though you specifically mentioned "But that still won't take care of some other issues. I'd like to make a copy of "Over Canada" (a well made video showing the various areas of this country) for a friend in Italy." and that is most likely illegal (unless it's some sort of PD travel video).

Sorry you feel that way about DVDtalk. The commerical aspect is needed so the forum can maintain a free service. The "dictatorship mentality" is what keeps this place from sinking into the flame war after flame war of some other forums found on the I'net.
