THE PIANO Australian DVD October 5...
This one was a pleasant surprise! One of my personal favorites, Jane Campion's THE PIANO, will be released by Magna Pacific in Australia on October 5. The disc will reportedly feature a 16:9 transfer, 5.1 surround audio, audio commentary by director Jane Campion and producer Jan Chapman, a "making of" featurette, and a limited edition collector's booklet.
Does anyone know if this is a new transfer? I've really been disappointed with all of the releases so far. The French release has the best picture, but it has forced French subtitles. I really hope Magna Pacific comes through with a top notch release.
The cover can be seen here

I just thought I would share this piece of information I received from Magna Pacific regarding the Australian DVD release of The Piano. I sent an email asking for information regarding the film's transfer. This was the reply:
Firstly - I can tell you it has been authored magnificantly, visuals and audio are clean and crisp. I do not think you will be disappointed with the outcome.
Secondly, Jane Campion and Jan Chapman were involved in creation of the motion menus, static menus, sleeve art and production of collector's booklet. That is they had final approvals over art and content chosen and created by Magna and Magna's partners who were involved in the project. The Directors and Producers commentary was recorded in Sydney July 2005. This commentary was recorded specifically for the DVD release.
My DVD was shipped yesterday and this has made me anticipate it even more.
