US release of 3-Iron for cheap

3-Iron is being released in the US by Kino, which is a publisher whose discs are rarely discounted below $20. I just got back from a hollywood video store where the manager showed me the dvds that will go out next week. He had over 20 copies of 3-Iron. (and last week he only got 2 copies of Oldboy, wtf?)

This same store had about 5 copies of Samaritan Girl and 4 of them went to the PVD rack within two weeks of release. Based on that, I expect 3-Iron to hit the PVD shelves right quick, and will probably be priced at $10 for an essentially untouched copy.

If you dig around the bargain forum, you can find a coupon good for buy 1 PVD get 1 PVD free if use a visa card, so if you can find another PVD you would like (Tae Guk Gi is relatively common and you may still be able to find a Tartan release like Samaritan Girl, Japon or the Coast Guard (also hitting shelves next week) that would be about $5 for 3-Iron.

Short of falling off a truck, a better deal you will not find.

I am not quite so sure what you are talking about but 3-Iron is not released in R1 by Kino but Columbia Pictures.

Ciao,

I could have sworn the spine said Kino Video. Either way, Columbia's foreign flicks are street-priced almost as high as Kino's, so the deal is still a deal.

It's a Sony release (well ok, Sony/Columbia) and the spine says "Sony Pictures Classics".

judging by the wording of the OP there is no such deal, it all sounds like mere speculation

I'll stick with my R3 standard special packaging release, thank you. It's a beautiful set, well worth the extra buck or two you'll save with a probably cut, bareboned R1 release.

Based on my experience buying hundreds of domestic and foreign movies PVD at Hollywood Video I FULLY expect to pick up a pristine 3-Iron by the end of the month for $5. I will post here if the pricing goes awry.

Review of this release, which includes a subtitled director's commentary is here.

A few weeks late and a dollar or so short, my HWV put out about 10 copies of pristine 3-irons today at $12.95 which, after the 2for1 coupon is $6.50 each.
