A version of Hero I somehow missed
from here:
http://stores.moviesville.com/Items/1000081?
when did this come out and how did i miss it? It's still the 98 minute cut and I believe the EDKO release. I tried to do a search but there are quite a few hero threads.
Any one have this verison? What's the book like?

The "DVD-9" indication generally means bootleg.
Edit: OK, I actually went to the site and see that this is a Mainland China release from GDFace, who also sometimes use the "DVD-9" indication. This may be legit, but GDFace are notorious for their lousy video transfers.
The booklet appears to be identical to the one in their older "HREO" Extended Edition DVD box. It's about 15 pages and is mostly photos with Chinese text. That sample image on the site (with the "Director's Signature") is the last page and gives you a decent idea of what the rest of it looks like.
It looks to me like they've just repackaged the contents of their original Theatrical Cut DVD with the booklet from the Extended Edition box and put them in a new box. Be warned that the old box claimed to be "wooden" as well but was really just cardboard.
This looks somewhat interesting but I wouldn't buy it (this from someone who owns 7 different editions of Hero now and isn't averse to collecting multiples of his favorite movies).

Well, according to that site it is the Face DVD; which is one of the worst releases around. It may be similar to the extended version they released which has the "Face" logo appearing in the film.

I'll tell you about this one.
I bought that version off ebay a few years ago, and its legitimate.
Guang Dong/Face released 3 versions of the Hero DVD on its initial release.
(all were only the theatrical cuts)
DVD-5 with no DTS
DVD-9 with DTS
DVD-9 with DTS in a limited edition case
The disc itself is identical to the Theatrical DVD-9,
packaged with a 24 page book in a very nice case.
No logo-popping, English subs available (except for the opening and closing)

yup manicsounds is spot on
this was part of the original release of the hero movie, and at the time it sold out.
there was talk of it being restricted to 2000 world wide, but i dont know how accurate this info was.
it was also being advertised as signed by zhang yimou, but this turned out to be a print only.
it was widely available on ebay and went for about US$30.
