I have this exact same DVD and let me tell you it took me 2 days to get the multiregion hack to work. Persevere and it will play.
What these internet hacks tell you is what to do, not really what is involved.
Make sure no discs are inserted.
When you switch this machine on, let it load partially up and keep checking the display, do not let it load fully and then try the hack as it will show error.
After a sec or so after turning on press the BLUE button.
Press PLAY button
Quickly press 159
without pausing continue to press 121212005255
Most importantly press 'standby' when numbers are entered
You will now have multiregion capability.
On another downside, you WILL see your numbers appear on the display, but if you do not type fast enough you will only get see a couple before the machine loads up.
There is perhaps a 2 second window to get this information typed in.
So recap, as it is loading up (not when powered completely on) very quickly press play, 159 121212005255 and then standby.
Do not look at the display as it will throw you off. Even if you think it is not working, type everything until it works and believe me it will work.

Hey asioclamator and Chris,
I also just got a dvdr615 and I am attempting to unlock it. I don't have to unplug the player or anything right? It seems that if i leave it plugged in it loads too fast... Does it matter if the antenna cable is in or not?
So the procedure is as follows:
-Turn on system using the stand-by/on button on the player
-after a second or two press the blue button
-press play
-159
-121212005255
-standy-by on the remote
Is this correct???
Thanks

You don't need to unplug it.
The procedure is correct. You have to press the blue button after a sec or so and immeditely start typing the numbers. You will see them appear on the display. You do have to be very quick and it does work. Most important is to put it into standbye at the end of the attempt.

I'd like to thank you all for this information. It was really useful and I managed to unlock my DVDR-615.
In my case (like RaK) I had to press Play after entering the numbers.
Also, for me it wasn't necessary to do it right after startup. I can't tell which was the exact moment, I just kept trying until it worked.
Thanks guys!

i'm trying like a madman here but i can't get it right...
i press ON on the dvdr615
i wait app 1 sec
i press blue
play
159
121212005255
standby
does "standby when numbers are entered?" mean pressing Standby at the same time i'm pressing the numbers? all the numbers or just the 1212...?
or is it just AFTER pressing all the numbers?
there's no firmware who can make all of this?
pardon my swenglish
thanks in advance!!!

dvdr615 philips unlock code
My device is a DVD-R 615/17 and my remote control does not have the blue button you are talking about. Is there a way of doing the same unlock without this button?
Regards.

try this:
Philips DVDR 617
Region code hack posted by Stephen Thomas, March 15 2004:
1. In TV mode, on the remote control press [0],[6],[2],[5],[9],[6] and then press the [MENU] button.
2. Select the "DVD" option on the menu, using the arrow keys, and then press the [ENTER] button.
3. Highlight the "Region" option, and then use the left and right arrow keys to change the region from 2 (UK), to "ALL".
4
. Exit by pressing the [MENU] key until you are back to TV.

dvdr615 philips unlock code
Seashellz, actually my device is a dvd-r 615 (model 17 - US American). I bought it in November 2004.
The remote control is the one shown in the document http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...17_dfu_aen.pdf. It has a TV/DVD button, that is useful when you are connected to the TV by the antenna cable - this is not my case.
There are two menu buttons - disc and system. When I hit the system menu button, there is not "DVD" option, as you mention, so there is no way I can find the Region option.
If anyone can find another way of unlocking this model of DVD using the remote control, let me know.
Regards,
Aldo
