German Expressionist films.. best versions?
I have yet to see either of these films, but after reading their plots/reviews I became interested in watching/buying them. the only problem is, each film has 2 or 3 different versions out (maybe more..!?). The Golem, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. I am mostly interested in a decent image transfer, accompanied by an appropriate soundtrack. on the Nosferatu release, it seemed the only version with a fitting soundtrack was the Image version.
any websites with information regarding the different versions would be nice =) (it wasn't difficult to find a Nosferatu comparison website because of its popularity) or any personal reviews, of course.

RE: Nosferatu. It's true that the Image version has better music, but the Kino has a better image.
Overall the Kino box set has the best versions available of the other movies.

Comments and comparisons from the Silent Era website may be helpful to you:
The Golem
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
DVD Beaver has done a comparison of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
My favorite German Expressionist film is outside of the horror genre. It is F.W. Murnau's The Last Laugh/Der Letzte Mann. Currently, the best available version is R2 PAL from the UK company Eureka. A DVD Beaver comparison is available here.
