Volcano High + Snoop Dogg = ???
What the heck is this???
I thought I'd wait to see if the R1 release of this would be any good, but I didn't expect a gangsta dub!
Has anybody seen this? Apparently it was aired on MTV a while ago.
What other regions have released Volcano High and which one has the best video/audio quality?

Hong Kong Legends (R2 PAL) has a version out with an English language commentary and special features (I believe) subtited in English, but this is a shorter version of the film. Some people prefer the shorter version, so this might not be a negative point.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
Buy the R1 DVD cheap and use the first disc as a drink coaster.
At least i hope the crappy MTV dub is on a seperate disc.
Where did this idea that martial arts movies and hip-hop music were a "good" combo come from? Who came up with this idea and how can i make his/her life as miserable as trying to watch "Black Mask" with the dub/rap soundtrack.

To be consistent, no one here has complained about the Shaw Bros. reissues not having the English dub tracks, right? The R1 CONDUCT ZERO also had an English dub track.

DVD Talk Legend
there was a thread on this in movie talk when it aired on mtv... I managed to avoid the Snoop version of Volcano High, but after seeing the dvd cover - I'm curious. I'll never buy it or rent it, but I'd like to see like 5 minutes of it or something.

The difference between Volcano High's dub and Conduct Zero's, is with Volcano High they basically cut the movie to pieces, rearranging all sorts of scenes (And I believe cutting about 40 minutes off the 'standard edition' of the movie), then went in with Snoop dogg and others to dub it? On top of that, they get rid of the original soundtrack and used all rap (And that horrible, horrible "Milkshake" song about 10 times throughout it) throughout the movie (I believe even when there was no music)
Anyways, heres a clip:

DVD Talk Legend
I think i need to find the 5.1/6.1 extended cut of this movie.
1. Released theatrically in Korea at a running time of 122 (!) minutes. The film does extremely well and this is the version available on DVD in R3 (Korea).
2. The director went in himself and created a 100 minute "international cut" for worldwide release. This is the version available on DVD in R0 (both Hong Kong and the UK). The Hong Kong DVD features 8 of the 22 minutes deleted as a "special feature" whereas the UK DVD features EVERYTHING that was deleted as a "special feature."
3. Distant Horizon gains North American rights for the film. Instead of letting an independent studio put the film out (e.g. they let Media Blasters put out Versus on DVD), they go a "different/more profitable" route. Instead, they partner with MTV to create a dubbed release for the film using hip hop stars. The film is edited down to an 82 minute runtime with much of the footage being shuffled around along with the film's original soundtrack being completely removed (and it's replaced with crap... errr, I mean rap). This version premiered commercial-free on MTV early last year.
If you have a region free player, go with the R3 edition. The DVD is fantastic, but none of the extras on disc two are subbed. It's too bad FOX is giving the flick the shaft for R1 DVD.
