Any differences between R1 - R2 editions of "Shaun of the Dead"

I apologize if this has been asked beforehand and answered, but I couldn't find any results when "searching" on this website, or DVD Beaver for that matter.

is there any reason to get the Region 1 edition or am I pretty much well off with my Region 2 UK edition?

I know that the R2 has two more commentary tracks than the R1 does. Besides that I don't know if there are any other differences.

I'm pretty sure chente is right about this. Two additional commentaries on the R2 UK release + no significant improvements to R1 US release = no reason to double dip.

I own the R2 and out of curiosity just rented the R1 from Netflix so...

Compared to the R2, the R1 is missing:
  • Commentary with Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton
  • Commentary with the Zombies (movie extras, not in character)
  • Lucy Cam - Lucy Davis's video diary
  • Joe's Diary - A Day in the Life of a Zombie Extra
  • "Remembering Z Day", the full Jeremy Thompson interview. (Part of this can be seen in the film's epilogue.)
  • Fright Fest 2003 Teaser Trailer
  • Official Teaser Trailer
  • UK Theatrical Trailer
  • TV Spots
  • Commentary Subtitles

Compared to the R1, the R2 is missing:
  • Casting Tapes (table reads, rehearsals and fruity goofiness, runs 4 minutes)
  • US Theatrical Trailer
  • Trailers for other films
  • The word "c*nt" uncensored (in the Flip Board featurette and I think one of the commentaries)

Two other notes:

1) The subtitles have been completely redone. In the bonus features I noticed the American subtitler having problems with Brit accents. Why did they redo them instead of just keeping the R2's subtitles? Beats me.

2) Since I'm used to seeing these actors in PAL (Spaced and Black Books DVDs) it's a very odd experience to hear how low their voices are in NTSC. Normally I don't notice PAL speed-up, but it's very obvious to me on the commentaries.

Sorry to derail a little, but. . .

Were Spaced and Black Books shot on film? I ask because my understanding of the PAL speed-up issue is that it is only a factor when the material is shot on film; if shot on video, there would be no speed-up. Am I misunderstanding something??

I can't speak for these particular shows, but in theory you are correct. Footage shot on PAL video at 30fps is played back at the same speed it was recorded at, hence no speedup.

However, most British television productions are shot with a mixture of video for interiors and 16mm film for exteriors, which tends to screw things up a bit.
