how to avoid bootlegs on eBay?

I ordered four imports from a user on eBay... I tried to pick out somebody that put some effort into their auctions, and that had a REALLY large, good feedback... I made the order, got Oldboy, Casshern, Ichi the Killer and Natural City, all for around $80. I thought that might be a little cheap, but the box art & features all looked right, and the auctions promised they were factory pressed, and NOT DVD-R's. Now that I ordered them, I thought about it a bit more, and realized that all four auctions showed the titles to be "region-free". I took a look around, and seems that all the "legal" releases are actually R2 or R3... what's the deal? Are legal items copied to that detail, in a factory type setting?? How has this guy stayed on eBay for so long (this guy had 30k+ feedback)? Am I paranoid, or did I actually get bootlegs?

Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=6345110721

I apologize in advance if this is a taboo subject or something, I certainly wouldn't have made the purchase if I thought these were bootlegs :-/

If you'd read the rules at sign-up, or looked through a few earlier [closed] threads on the topic, there'd be no need to apologise.

By order of the site owner and founder, bootleg discussions are not permitted here.
